Sharing Economy helping you become MF

Well this is a great idea I saw on TV today.
'The Sharing Economy is a socio-economic ecosystem built around the sharing of human and physical resources. It includes the shared creation, production, distribution, trade and consumption of goods and services by different people and organisations.'
The idea is that people make and save money by helping each other out and it also is good for the environment.
People were renting out their bikes to people for the weekend. So person renting got cheap hire and person renting got a bitto cash.
One woman car sharing. People paid for a lift to London and the woman made more than her petrol and had good fun on her journey.
Renting out tools- I think the example was a hammer for £10 a week.
Renting out a room or an attic for storage.
Thought I'd start this thread to see what other ideas were out there that people are doing.

£10 for weeks use of a £3 hammer.

Based on current legislation the taxi comment is correct. God forbid we reduce congestion, emissions and allow people to make a couple of quid ( unless it's HM treasury from fuel tax).
I think the sharing economy is a great idea, but I think bartering for what you want and swapping rather than cash exchange. Certainly its a good way to reduce the endless attempts to track our spending that cashless payments, pingit and apple pay encourage.
Until the population as a whole decides to work together rather than in the dog eat dog way encouraged by big business and government we as a society will continue to feel poor.

i watched some of this last night as well. It may be my cynical nature but isn't there the opportunity for theft, scams etc here?
So you hire out something and it doesn't get returned, have you checked this persons identity and address prior to hiring? How do you know they haven't given fake details? How do you recover your items?
Its ok with hiring out a £3 hammer for £10 as in the above example as you are coving the cost of replacement, but hiring out a power drill costing £250 for £50 for a day? I know its a bit extreme, but I tend to expect the worst of people, then I can be surprised when I am proved wrong.
Also a single woman in this paid car sharing (taxi) service. I had a female friend who taxied between jobs, and the number of times she was beat up for her money box, or had people doing a runner and not paying, and even guys trying to touch her up was unbelievableMortgage = [STRIKE]£113,495 (May 2009)[/STRIKE] £67462.74 Jun 20190 -

More commonly known as Capitalism. It seems to work reasonably well, at least compared to the alternatives.getmore4less wrote: »...

Blablacar, who do that sort of thing, claim that is not a requirement, and refer people to this statement by the ABI.
