AN's don't generally cause pain or discharge. AN's are also not visible externally, so I would suggest that it is very unlikely indeed.

Cholesteatoma however, DOES cause the symptoms that the OP has described. They are visible from the outside.

OP I'm surprised that your GF suggested you visit A&E, especially given her profession. She will know that all they can do is send you back to your GP to chase the referral. If you're lucky they might give you some painkillers. Please leave A&E for those who genuinely have a life threatening emergency.

I hope you since you posted, you've been able to make some headway with your GP and/or the hospital.
