question about mortgage dependents

Hi,
I'm wondering the best way to apply for a new mortgage - there are two of us with two children under 18. My husband earns the most and is in a permanent post and I am on a zero hours contract bringing in a few hundred pounds a month.
Mortgage calculators show that we would be able to lend more with him being the only applicant, but I wonder whether we would have to declare both children as his dependents, or can we consider them my dependents so just have him on the mortgage with no dependents?
Also wondering how accurate the Natwest affordability calculator is? It suggests we can borrow quite a lot.

If you're not on the mortgage but living there then some lenders will consider you as a dependent, as well as the children. Best to contact a broker if affordability is likely to be an issue.0

A lot of lenders do not like applications for married couples in a sole name.
The kids are his dependents so saying they are not is a lie.
Speak to a broker, do it the right way.I am a Mortgage AdviserYou should note that this site doesn't check my status as a mortgage adviser, so you need to take my word for it. Will probably go through a broker to get an idea of options etc, just wanted an idea on figures we are likely to be able to borrow. Thanks!0
