Secondhand jewellery

I would like to treat myself to a piece of Secondhand jewellery that I might sell in the future to treat myself to something else, what I would like to know is what holds it's value better antique/vintage or more modern pieces also do the stones make much difference, I'm not spending thousands just a few hundred. Any advice please, Thanks.

This may sound rather obvious, but a good quality piece with a well cut stone will always hold its value better than a flashy piece with a poorly cut stone. Some antique pieces aren't as good as some modern pieces and vice versa. Quality rules!
