Another nail in the coffin of being able to make complaints without charge.
Frivolous complaints are killing the FOS and there are already proposals from the Conservatives to end the ability to complain without charge (refunded if successful) to reduce the number of people making complaints where there is nothing wrong and are just trying it on.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. Just because you two have a vested interest in protecting the profits of your industry.
That profit comes from other peoples back crunching labour! You should do more to earn it then running a coimputer says no check.0 -
So just because you and the OP doesnt like the charges on a service which he accepted and signed up for, you will complain to the Ombudsman ? It is a completely legitimate charge which you were aware of before you started the process. Why did it suddenly become unfair ? Because the OP was found to be ineligible for a mortgage ?
Utter nonsense.0 -
Because its unfair and he didnt really understand it before hand.
If I go to your mums house and say tarmac your drive for 40 grand and your mum signs up and gives me 40 grand. Then you go around and say but mum youve been ripped off, same difference.
How many loans companies are watchdog investigating for taking fees and not giving out loans, or giving out ghey loans. Its immoral, its wrong.0 -

Oh yes, I really stand to gain a lot from C&G making a £300 charge. That profit comes from other peoples back crunching labour! You should do more to earn it then running a coimputer says no check
What occupation do you have Yant? No doubt it is one that has charges which could be classed as ripping off others when working with your principles.
The double standards from some people on this website is at times amazing. Your plumbers, builders, shop workers etc whinge about unfair charges from banks but they should perhaps look at their own jobs to see similar things happening there.Because its unfair and he didnt really understand it before hand.
Why is it unfair? Whose fault is it that he didnt understand it? The information given at the time clearly states non-refundable.If I go to your mums house and say tarmac your drive for 40 grand and your mum signs up and gives me 40 grand. Then you go around and say but mum youve been ripped off, same difference.
40k is a long way from £300.How many loans companies are watchdog investigating for taking fees and not giving out loans, or giving out ghey loans. Its immoral, its wrong.
Simple answer to that is none. Its not being investigated.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. Ridiculous argument.
No one is forcing your mum to pay 40 grand, its up to your mum to shop around and find the best price. If she was willing to pay then there is nothing she can do about it, same with the OP.
And no i don't have a vested interest, i'm just not an idiot like you it seems.0 -
I think things are getting a little out of hand here!
Unlimitedsavings query has been answered and this is now getting way off topic and getting personal. Shall we just agree to disagree?I am a Mortgage AdviserYou should note that this site doesn't check my status as a Mortgage Adviser, so you need to take my word for it. I work for the government in investment appraisal analysing quotes and contracts to try and minimise how much of the taxpayers coffers gets taken. I earn 30K a year but regularly manage to knock millions off quotes.
I believe that it is unfair to get paid for a service that hes not going to get so maybe if he complains it might pursuade C+G to change there policy. If it was 50-100 quid maybe youd say fair enough, consulatation and a credit check but 300 is a bit OTT and he didnt realise the risk that he would not get the product.0 -
Now Now ladies....... Calm down.
We all know these charges are the spawn of Satan. Extremely unfair and way out of proportion from what the actual cost is of carrying out the application.
Claim it back?
Simple solution.
READ THE TERMS AND CONDITIONS!
It's that easy. Or a simpler solution. Ask any fees to be added to the mortgage. May be a lot more expensive in the long run, but then at least if your applications refused your not out of pocket.
Complain anyway and good luck. I suggest rubix to kill the time
