A free PDF ebook is available explaining the circumstances of the 1943 Bethnal Green Shelter Disaster, the worst civilian disaster of 20th century Britain. The book contains edited interviews with dozens of people who survived the disaster.
The site also has a free teaching pack for teachers and youth workers with lesson plans and activity ideas for teaching home front World War II. There is also a free audio download featuring clips from the interviews narrated by Tommy Walsh.
The materials were gathered by staff and volunteers working on a two-year project based at the University of East London, funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund.

We were only discussing this the other week when we were in the area to visit the Museum of Childhood. So sad that almost entire families were wiped out in this tragedy - well worth reading about, as it was kept under wraps for years, to save undermining the war effort.0

Thanks - very interesting.
This is available on Amazon as a 106 page paperback - but from a third party seller at a cost of £50 + £2.80 postage!
Given that they've made a free PDF available, I wonder if they could be persuaded to make a free Kindle edition available on Amazon?0
