dealing with claiming for travel expenses and time

Hi all, I work in IT. I have an office where the company is based, about 2 miles/15mins away. I tend to either go there and pick up parts, meetings or the odd half a day a week or so.

I spend 95% of my time out on site. I have a rota whereby I spend either a half day or full day at a site, each week. The distance can be as less as 2 miles, or 6-8 miles/30mins away.

As I understand it, I can't claim for the mileage and time in getting to my perminant place or work, but over and above that, I can. That applies to coming home. So if I need to be at a site for 8.30, and they are 30mins away, I claim for extra 15mins and 4 miles. Would that be right?

I do claim for travel BETWEEN sites during my lunch hour.

I tried my personel but they never get back. just wondered if this sort of thing is standard.

Time is easy, thats defined by your contract.

Travel time not being paid only becomes an issue if you calculate your hourly rate inc the additional travel time and it becomes below NMW. I'd be surprised if this were the case but if it is then you have legal ground for a resolution.

As to travel costs, again what you can get from your employer is down to your contract. If it doesnt come in at the HMRC allowed level then you can put in a claim for tax relief directly with HMRC. See https://www.gov.uk/tax-relief-for-employees/how-to-claim on how to do it
