Old Debt - Sainsburys / Lowell

Ok, had a loan taken out back in 2004, I ran into difficulties in 2006, and eventually defaulted on it in 2007.
Never paid anything further or acknowledged the debt. (moving around from friends house to friends house, generally running away from it.)
2013 - It drops off my credit file due to the 6 year rule.
2 weeks ago I got a letter from Lovells enquiring about it and offering settlement for 5% of the total. I ignored it as I presumed its out of time and no longer on the file, and they were just hoping I would make a gullible payment.
Today I got a letter from Sainsbury's saying they had charged me £50.00 in error .
This sentence in the letter worries me though.
"We have contacted Lowell Group who have informed us of the status of the account
As the account is still active, we have asked Lowell Group to credit your account with this refund and a cheque for £50.00 is attached below to cover any distress this might have caused you."
As the amount owed has changed (not through any payment from me, but the refund of the fee by Sainsbury's direct to Lowell) does this count as acknowledgement of the debt and the 6 year rule starts again.
Thanks in advance for any advice
cheers
