Skype won't detect built in Webcam

Options
I have had my Dell Inspiron I7 5000 laptop for about 5 weeks. When I set it up I tested Skype and it was functioning fully.

At the weekend I tried to Skype and I got a message to say Skype could not detect a web cam. I have looked at settings, uninstalled and reinstalled Skype and it is still saying there is no web cam.

Do I go to Dell with a fault on the laptop or is it a fault with Skype? Any help or advice appreciated.

Not sure how to operate the webcam without Skype. Only ever used a built in webcam in conjunction with Skype.

I imagine it should be in Control Panel under Device & Printers?

The built in webcam does not show up in Devices & Printers, either on this laptop or my previous laptop.

If you open "my computer" (XP) or "computer" (Win7+), you'll see all your drives listen and the webcam listed below them, double click and it should display the image.

If this doesn't work, then it's probably a Windows issue, I can't use my Logitec C270 with Win7, but it works perfectly on WinXP. It's just one more thing I have to use on my laptop since installing Win7 on my main PC.

By using my old laptop I have navigated around Device Manager. There is no Imaging device showing for the new Dell. I will contact Dell as there is clearly a fault somewhere.

Is there a shortcut on the keyboard to turn the cam on and off?

Just spent an hour with Dell's on line technical support. Drivers needed to be reinstalled and the courteous assistance received was excellent. All seems to be working OK now.
