in need of some advice

It's a bit of a long story but I have been having some trouble at work recently and am a bit worried that other staff members are trying to get me sacked.
I have just registered with the GMB but when I phoned them they said they can't do anything until my application has been processed.

So anyway a couple of months ago I was given an investigation as the hot drinks machine had not been put back together correctly. It is really complicated to put it back together and I thought it was correct. The investigation wasn't taken any further but since I have covered my back by getting a manager to check the machine is assembled correctly before I leave.

A couple of weeks later I get another investigation. This time for cash shortages. 3 were listed all of which were under £5.50. I wasn't the only person to get this investigation - Again this wasn't taken any further and since I have been really careful about handling money.

Then a few weeks ago I received a letter informing me that my performance was to be reviewed as I was performing at an unsatisfactory level - I love my job and am extremely hard working doing everything that is asked of me. The things that are to be reviewed are:
Being unable to correctly assemble the hot drinks machine
cash shortages
Messy paperwork
Needing extra help when working on various departments

the 2nd and 3rd point were signed off straight away. but i have been told they won't sign off the hot drinks machine one until I can do it without getting it checked and if i don't get it checked and it's wrong I'll get another investigation. and i don't need extra help when on departments, I just ask admittedly too many questions because i don't want to do my job wrong.

Also i suffer from anxiety and this has all caused me to get emotional at work. My manager knows I suffer from anxiety, however other staff members have been reporting that I got emotional when I didn't and making up reasons for me getting emotional and i have been informed that if this doesn't improve them I may fail my performance review.

This is the best job i have ever had and i am worried people are trying to get me out of it please can I have some advice for how to proceed, and when my GMB membership is sorted is it worth getting someone in with me on these weekly review meetings?

First question, how long have you worked there?

If it is less than two years then I assume you realise you have very little protection?

Although the firm may allow a union rep at a review meeting they don't have to. Your legal right to representation only covers disciplinary and grievance meetings.

Also, generally unless it is considered to be in the interests of the membership as a whole, normally there is a qualifying period for new members before a union will provide much help.
  • I've worked there 10 months and not had any issues up until about 2 months ago. I understand that i have little protection as i've worked there under 2 years which is why I want to take action now to stop me being sacked as other staff are making stuff up and telling the GM.
