Financial help for going back to work?

I have been on income support/carers allowance for 7 years due to caring for my disabled son. His needs got to great and he has now started residentual school (52 week placement).
I have a 1 year old, so get lone parent income support but I would like to go back to work.
What help is there for going back to work?
Do they offer any benefits run on payments?
I'm worried the time waiting for my benefits to be sorted will leave me struggling
