Tuesday 14th July - What small DFW things will you do today?

When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym.
But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free!
Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending!
So be proud of those small steps, they really are important! :money:

Cooking a quiche, Yorkshire puds from surfeit duck eggs and some chocolate tarts
Need to spend for DIY materials but putting it off ! Not sure if thsts the DIY or the spending ! But both work.
I suppose the DIY is saving money from not hiring a tradesperson.
Dryer on blink therefore number one, repair due Thursday (pay for extended warranty) so no spending there short term, just every month ! Did price comparison by phoning competitors, but cheaper where I am.Debt is a symptom, solve the problem.0 -
Morning everyone
thanks for starting us off ziggy!
Today's plans:
* [STRIKE]Gammon joint out of the freezer. It's a small one but thinking it'll do a meal (maybe 2) and ham for lunches for a few days[/STRIKE]
* [STRIKE]bacon pasta for dinner tonight as bacon needs using![/STRIKE]
* [STRIKE]start job application that needs to be submitted for 9am tomorrow. Quite fancy this one, although it is a £350 pm drop from my previous salary - although it's a lot more than I'm on at the moment! The job is working directly with people with mental health problems, what I used to do years ago before I went into management. Will start this morning and carry on when I get back[/STRIKE]
* [STRIKE]load of washing & stick on the line[/STRIKE]
*[STRIKE] meeting a friend late morning for a walk along the beach and a picnic. Free socialising and exercise[/STRIKE] decided not to go for a walk as it was cloudy and threatening to rain. Will do some knee strengthening exercises later instea
* [STRIKE]need to get milk and petrol so not a NSD but no personal spends[/STRIKE]opps bought some ys mushrooms & 3 frying steaks while thereI seem to have a problem with this at the moment. If I see something that is a good reduction I buy it for the freezer to reduce costs over the month. The problem is my freezer at the moment is full to bursting so really need to be using it up. But so hard when you see something that is an absolute bargain, you would buy it anyway and you're trying to cut costs. Must try to stop this!
* [STRIKE]flylady[/STRIKE]
* [STRIKE]check through fridge/cupboard to make sure nothing is wasted! Rejig meal plan if needed[/STRIKE]
* make dgd's pack lunch - have shifted to doing this the day/evening before, previously I did it on the morning. Can't believe how much easier this makes the mornings!
* contact agency about a part time position a friend told me about at a company I've always wanted to work for. Fingers crossed
* Get some arts and crafts out to play with dgd after childminders. Think I'm going to do a massive floor/hands & feet paintingoh taking her to the park so will save for another day
* took trousers to friends that are just a bit too big and she pinned them (I've had them about 18 monthsmight take them up this evening if I get the application finished early enough
Ok that's my lot! Hope everyone has a lovely day. Hugs to those who need one.
Foxgloves thanks for your insight into p/t work, its what I think I want to do but there are a lot more f/t jobs out there... Oh found the idea abhorrent when I first suggested it but was less frosty the following day, so will see how this unfolds....DF as at 30/12/16

Hi everyone
My list for this morning:
Early 2 mile walk with the dog. Usually no-one else about at this hour (6 a.m.) but met another dog walker today and both dogs had a wonderful time chasing each other about in a field where the hay had just been cut & made into bales ( the footpath runs through the field).
Done a load of washing on very cool wash & hung on line. Very overcast, but hopefully will dry.
Cycled to local WI market to buy eggs - lovely large free range 85p for 6.
Called in at baker - bought 2 of yesterday's loaves for a total of £1.50.
Making tomato omelettes for lunch with eggs from WI - will use some of last year's tomatoes out of freezer.
Make lemon drizzle cakes - I always use my top small oven for loaf cakes - the temperature seems better in that oven for large cakes. I can fit 3 on a shelf, so 2 can be frozen.
That's the morning sorted - not sure what this afternoon will bring yet!
Yesterday, I had a bit of a sort out, & listed a few things on eBay. Fingers crossed that someone will want what I don't! Will take to the charity shop if not sold.

Morning all
Awol yesterday due to feeling rotten(and consequently not achieving much), but a bit better today. The positive side was, at least I didn't spend anything :T Feeling much better this evening
So far I have:
Sorted chickens and dog out
Quick tidy round upstairs, got rid of various bits, dead flowers etc downstairs. Still don't feel up to proper housework (any excuse)
Finished labelling and packing items for sales unit, but I won't take them down today due to not wanting to spread my germs around. I will put the boxes in the car ready in a minute though
Done a bit in the garden -picked some baby beetroot, courgettes, French beans and sweet peas, planted some lettuces, sowed some more spring onion and radish seeds
Still to do:
Check banks
Put boxes of sales items in the car Done, and I took them down to the shop. Several things had sold :T
Polish up some old wooden jewellery boxes to make them look better, then they can go as wellNot done this yet as I need to ask OH what to use (sounds daft but he does wood stuff, and they are antiques so I don't want to put anything on them that would spoil their appearance)
Work out how to take baby seat out of car Done, I had to use all 3 of my degrees, but I did it in the end :rotfl:
Plant some marigolds in gaps in front garden pots Done, had enough to fill an extra pot as well
Meals from stores, salmon with young vegetables from the garden tonightDone
Keep out of supermarkets - not hard, as I still don't feel like going out! Nothing spent :T
Hmm not too ambitious a list, hopefully I will be able to add a bit more later when I update!
Done a wash, pegged it out on the line and it promptly started to rain  It is on the airer now
Cleaned a small pine book case to take to sales unit in the morning
Did a bit more tidying - and that is it
Must do better tomorrow
Glad so many of the regulars have had good news and are feeling positive today
Miss your interesting post Foxgloves!
Have a good day everybody0 -
Hi All
I love reading this thread. I can also not take a car seat out of a car, what is isofix? Feeling confused and then some.
Had a late night chatting to DS and DH re farm, what to do, what to do. Sometimes if in doubt, do nowt! Am sure things will become clear as times goes on.
Should have a NSD.
DH is taking cattle to market, hope trade is OK.
Packed lunch again today, have salad and a jkt potato, can not decide what to have, or both.... hmm yummy.
Having a big push at work for more customers.
Hope to swim after lunch or tonight, now on direct debit I have to swim twice a week to save money. (it works for me this logic).
Have a good day all.
