Help needed mortgage application question re ccjs

Looking to buy but had a ccj which fell off file. Most lenders ask if you have had a ccj. How do you answer without shooting yourself in the foot. Surely should be any in last six years. What's the point in having a clean slate if they go back further? What if you had one 10 20 years ago? Ok I have learned my lessons. I am not in the position I was back then. Criminals get a new start. Why not the once financially embarrassed. Sorry for the rant. Dons flameproof suit lol

Apply to a lender which asks only "have you in the last six years...?" or get a broker to do it for you.I am a mortgage broker.
