Hey all, here is my predicament....
So I've been homeless for a couple of years now, it's no big deal, I've made it work for me.
I've received several letters now from LCS. I haven't kept them. Essentially, they have been demanding a payment for an address that I have never lived at (although do visit regularly. It's also a 'care of' address that I use).
After the second letter, I sent them an email...
"
Case Reference : 1234567
To whom it may concern, I have never lived at the address you contacted me. Nor have I ever been a bill payer for anything at that address. I'm not sure where you got your information from, but I use it for a 'care of' address for all of my correspondence. I am in fact, homeless, and only spend a couple of nights a week in Worcester, so I would appreciate it if you could stop hassling me with threatening letters. I would have phoned your number to discuss this, but presently I am too poor for phone credit.
************"
This was sent about a week ago.
Then, this morning, I receive the following response..
"Good morning,
Thank you for your email.
Unfortunately, I am unable to discuss this via email.
Please can I request that you provide a preferred contact number and we will contact you directly.
Regards
LCS

To which I'm pretty sure I should leave it.
But then at the address in question, I received another letter, making threats to send bailiffs round to nick what they can to the 'value' of £800+
The lady that lives there is on the poverty line herself, along with a young child. I *really* don't want to bring something upon this to their door. Being homeless, and this being one of the addresses I stop at a couple of times each week, as well as my 'care of' address, I could really use some pointers maybe...?
Thanks x

Hi,
Are the letters addressed to you personally ?
What kind of debt are they chasing you for, council tax ?
Something else ?
How have they got your name if you only stay there ?
Have you borrowed from somewhere in the past and given that address ?I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards. They are addressed to me personally, and as far as I know, I haven't had a single account with them in over 7 years, probably nearer 10 i guess.
The company was British gas, i just phoned them up.. asked them if i had any debts with them... had to give the address in question.. told them ive never lived there and its my c/o - they said i don't owe them anything. When i asked for a letter or email confirmation, they said they wouldn't be able to as it would link that address / email to the account and debt in question... so i filed a complaint, told them to contact LCS immediately and put them straight, or i'll be following legal proceedings against them for providing false information on to a third party in order to hassle me for money.
Kinda panicked, but also had a moment of clarity. I've no idea how they got my name... probably phishing internet petitions or any kind of digital information. As far as I'm aware, my only existing debts are to my student loan for a bjillion years ago..0 -
They also took my phone number, but to be fair, its not like it ever has battery, it's barely used.0

Ok, any debt from that long ago would be statute barred by now anyway, if more than 6 years have passed without written acknowledgement or payment, then they cant legally collect on it.
If they write to you again, write back stating that :
"the time for collecting this debt has run out, as no contact or payment has been made for a period exceeding 6 years, therefore this debt is time barred under the limitations act 1980".
That should fettle em !!!!!!I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards. I'd send the letters above and then ignore.
LCS tried to come after me about some utility bill that had already been paid. I just told them never to contact me again, by letter, several times. Haven't heard from them since.0 -
