    I'm a dentist, and I don't do my own!!!!

There are some things you have to let someone else do!

In you 'natural' kick as well, don't ever be tempted by fluoride free toothpastes. Flouride in toothpaste is one of the major contributions to better dental health over the past 40 years. Now your toddler is 3, he/she should also be on an adult toothpaste by now. (Small smear on the toothbrush).

Low flouride childrens toothpastes were one of the worst things the toothpaste companies ever brought out. The amounts of flouride in children's toothpastes have since gone up a fair bit, but there is really no need for them at all providing just a small amount of toothpaste is put on a childs brush, and they're never left alone to eat a tube full on a regular basis!!!
    How to find a dentist.
    1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
    2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
    3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
    4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.

Wow, I just read the start of that thread ... ... ...

As an occasional dental nurse I can't think of what to say about it at this time of night, I'm shaking my head a lot though! The mind boggles.

    True enough.

Try interdental brushes such as Tepes.

They come in a range of sizes, for different sized gaps between the teeth.

Ask your dentist/hygienst to size them up for you next time you're in. They're far more efficient than floss when you get the right size.

Well, I never knew that, I will be chucking away my DD toothpaste now.

  • I use Euthymol toothpaste and it hasn't got any fluoride in. My mates dad had always used it and popped to the dentist about every 2 years and never needed anything doing.
Another fluoride free toothpaste I tried (green people I think) was very poor.

When I want a really clean feel I use a waterpik scoosher thing that is like dental floss but water goes through the gaps in your teeth. I also use the colgate deep clean toothpaste in conjunction with this. The waterpik thing cost about £35 and since I got it and use it with a sonicare toothbrush the dentist always says my teeth are really clean.
If you always do what you have always done, you will always get what you always got!
