Home shop direct

Please someone help me! i don't know which way to turn-a few years ago i opened an account with very in my husbands name (he does know this) and was doing well managing the repayments. I was diagnosed with breast cancer a few weeks ago and because i am only receiving ssp i have fallen into arrears by £2000 (He doesnt know this) Friday i received a letter from home shop direct threatening full arrears by 20 july or a default notice being issued, this will obviously go onto my husbands record which is totally unblemished. I have tried to come to some sort of arrangement with these people but they just tell me it isn't enough. I can't tell my husband he is ex-army and will literaly flip. am so scared i don't no what to do

You have to tell him what has happened as it will come at some point and being honest will be better in the long run unless you can pay it all off without his knowledge.

They will accept an offer of a repayment plan and regardless of being ex army he is your husband and should as most men would stand by you regarding this.

    Hi,
I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but shop direct group are notoriously difficult to agree repayment plans with, they always tend to want more than you can afford to pay.

Is this the same debt you posted about in February ?

If you can't afford what there asking for, then I'm afraid a default will be inevitable.
I assume you have tried to negotiate with them ?

I expect the fact the account is in your husbands name will be a barrier to this, DPA and all.
My advice, tell your husband now, before they issue a default, would he be in a position to pay this off ?
Best to be honest now as he will find out.

    Hi Primrose,

You must tell your husband!!! Immediately. You cannot keep this secret from him as it is in his name. Its a bad situation and you cannot resolve it. He will find out but in the time you are keeping it secret costs will be building up and up.
