single traveller using family travel insurance

Hi. We plan to take 2 holidays this year. Barcelona as a couple and New York as a family, my 16 yr old son is also going on holiday with his friends family to France at the end of this month. So i am looking for a policy that will cover us as a family and him as a single traveller. Has anyone done something similar and if so what company did you use.

Most "family" or group annual travel insurances cover each person when travelling as a group or individually

Some family policies cover the adults when travelling alone, but the children are only covered if travelling with one of the adults named in the policy. I had a family annual multi-trip policy with the AA that had this condition. I'm sure other policies could be different, just make sure you check the terms before buying.

Single-trip insurance to visit France is very cheap, so long as he is young and healthy. So the money you might save by finding a policy that covers all your planned trips would be minimal, not enough to justify the trouble involved. I suggest you look for a good-value Annual policy that would give the cover you need for New York: then check whether it covers the France trip, and if not choose another policy for that.
