Now you're BR/in debt, do you find damage to your things more annoying?

I'm asking because I've got a relative staying with me at the moment who's managed to dye half of my new beige & mushroom bathroom floor pink thanks to them wearing footwear that they know the dye runs out of. They've not offered so much as an apology, telling me there's no reason to get annoyed about it.
According to them, the dye runs out of the footwear whenever they washed them at home - pity they didn't think that it might also run on my bathroom floor if they split water while wearing them then, isn't it? They've also told me it's not a big deal - considering the floor cost me loads & I didn't pick a pink floor because I didn't want one, it's a big deal to me. I don't have spare money to buy more flooring or floor coverings for it (& they're clearly not going to offer). I've got to look after my things because I can't afford to replace them. They can't see why I'm so bothered. I know accidents happen, but they still have to be paid for.
Do you find yourself being more careful with what you've already got, & getting more narked with people who give the impression they couldn't care less?

Totally - and I'm not even BR yet, just skint

We live in such a wasteful society nowadays, and then there's us (me and OH) who won't buy meat unless it's reduced, will only allow cakes and biscuits in the house if they are reduced to stupid amounts (10p for a huge pack of biscuits, yes please, £2 for a £25 cake? Oh, go on then, it can be your birthday cake and we'll imagine the candles
). It winds me up people being wasteful at any rate, but at the expense of others, especially those that really care!!! Grrrr, makes me hopping mad. People can just be so rude and unthoughtful and if we were all a bit more thoughtful in this world perhaps we would all be a little bit happier, and that can only be a good thing, right? Do not feed the trolls please.0 -
WDIAG. Does your 'friend' know the situation with you? i'm guessing they do, so i'm shocked at the attitude. Although before debt/Br i didn't worry too much about things getting broken or damaged, now i get hysterical if my daughter channel hops, yelling at her that she'll break the tv then that will be it, NO TV!
Last week she pulled a dinner plate out of the cupboard and the whole lot came out with it, smashing every dinner plate i have! you'd have thought she'd burnt the house down by my way over the top reaction. She did replace the plates though.
You have to be careful now because things can't be replaced as easily as before and the things you have you've got to cherish.
Have you been to the 'Money saving old style' part of this site to see if anyone has any suggestions for getting the dye out of your floor? The first time we said hello, was the first time we said goodbye. As the angels took your tiny hand and flew you to the sky-you forever left us breathless. RIP my beautiful granddaughter

I posted about it earlier today in the 'In my home (includes DIY) MoneySaving' part, but I've just posted it in the 'Old style' section too. If it's not one thing, it's another - I live in fear of something breaking that I need but can't afford to replace. I need to get myself some contents insurance - I'll have a look at the Quidco offers later & see what I can afford.

WDIAG, I don't know your situation in regards to your housing, myself I live in a council flat and they offer house insurance for a small sum (I think it's £5.44 per month). I'm not sure if it covers accidental damage tbh, but it might be worth looking into, depending of course on your own situation.
I've always been annoyed by people damaging or not being careful with my things. I haven't come across anything specific since I've been made BR but I'm sure it would rile me more than before. I think because you take such good care of your money post BR you notice these things more; before in my case I would have been mad but then stuck new flooring on the plastic, or got a loan. Now I don't have those options of course, so I'm sure I'd be furious, especially if they didnt even offer to pay for the damage.Sometimes you have to go throughthe rain to get to therainbow0
