Don't give them any reason to not pay you,
go in be nice, get the holiday paid in the final pay packet.
Training just have the new person do all the tasks and just be an observer/mentor0 -
I'd go in for the complete week, smile nicely, let them pay me for my week's notice plus the accrued holiday, spend time on doing a TNA with the replacement person, teach her whatever you have learned (eg how the file structure that remains is set up), set tasks such as documenting this, start each day reviewing the previous day, say what you will be doing, then do it, then at the end of the day review that day and say you look forward to the next.0

Thank you for all of your responses. Much appreciated.
I think I will go in until Thursday and then leave HR's daughter to it. Let her make mistakes (I cannot train her, as I have not been formally trained).
I just feel that after 5 months of hard work and days of unpaid overtime, not a single day off I have been royally shafted.
I'll go in but I cannot see myself being productive. I don't need a reference from my line manager in future either which is a bonus.
In other news, late on Friday I had an interview. Had a lot of positive feedback from the recruitment agency and should know where I stand on Tuesday. A longer commute, less money but the important thing that I have learnt over the last 5 months is that happiness and peace of mind are far more important.
Think it will be a "computer says no" week to anyone who asks me for anything (with a broad smile of course)

Training starts Mon morning with HR daughter doing everything you just supervise/mentor/train.0 -
I worked with someone who didn't serve her full notice. The company took her to court for the sake of a few days wages (much less than the legal proceedings cost) , so don't underestimate the repercussions if there is pettiness involved! Much better to just do the whole week & not provide an opportunity for them to be difficult.
Good luck with the job search!0 -

I think you are right. It's a wealthy company who would probably 'do something' for the sake of a few days leave. I'll behave myself. I'll walk out the door on Friday knowing that I did my best and leave it at that.LBM 2 June 20140 -

If you don't want to go in, just pretend to be ill. Can't be taken to court for not serving full notice if you are 'ill', can ya?!

I did that with the job I left OP. I was so squeaky clean on my notice week I can't believe I managed it. Ha ha.

Well, I went in all cheerful and productive, giving positive instructions to the new employee (HR daughter). Low and behold I got called into the boss' office and he told me that I could leave immediately and that I don't have to work the rest of the week (and will be paid).
I later found out that this organisation is not used to people handing in their notice, they like to fire everyone on their terms.
When I left the building (relieved) I got an email stating that I had secured another permanent job that I interviewed for. Start next week.
A good day at the office
