Thanks for the support. Busy day at work. Phone call to step change - we're nearly there. The budget is sorted. All debts included and bank accounts opened with nationwide.
Quick question - how do you mov your dd 's??

Cancel old ones, contact your DD accounts, give them your new bank details, over the phone is easiest !!

    Merry Christmas 😆

Do it yourself - don't let the bank 'switch' your DD's

You shouldn't have too many any more. You don't want any of those that relate to the debts you've set up in the DMP.

    Hello...
Strange.....Creation finance who I took to the fos with regards to interest charged over a year ago and agreed to reduce it have not charged any interest this month...! Maybe a Christmas gift..if so it now means all my debt is now 0%………

Puzz, I received 2 of our 5 credit cards statements from Creation yesterday and neither of them have interest charged on them! I thought it was odd, here's hoping they have seem the light as I am on a DMP, and by the time my payment and their interest added back on I end up paying about 25p off the debt a month!

  • Hi, haven't been on here in a long time and was under a different name (can't remember passwords etc). We started our DMP 5 years ago next month. Initially it was frightening and I dreaded phone calls and what the postman might bring! fastforward to now and we have gone from 45,0000 to just under 8,0000 and have a year to go. We now have 2 Daughters and becoming a parent really shows you what's important in life ( and living without credit). We have been fortunate that mortgage rates have stayed low allowing us to pay as much as possible but once we are finished, we will never go back to wasting money on "stuff" that we never really needed! As a little Christmas bonus pay plan have just informed me that 1 of our accounts was duplicated so we were paying it twice! This second payment has now been taken off our total knocking off over £1,000 which is nice!

Anyone starting out dont be scared by automated letters and phone calls they will soon stop sending them once all is up and running and eventually you will get control of your life back!

Good luck and Merry Christmas to all DMPers one and all!
  • What a lovely heartwarming post, DG1976:T

Wishing you and yours a memorable Christmas and a happy, healthy and debt-busting 2016:beer:.

The end is in sight for you now, it must feel great:j
  • Tin pot debt showing as defaulted on Noddle :D

Also had a final demand for Mrs BBs Barclaycard, so that looks like the final throws of that before default, although still not moved to PRA(t) Group.

Downside to forcing the defaults (to remove my last interest charging accounts) is I'm going to have to put the payments back to normal soon.

Will wait till the New Year though, been a nice Emergency Fund.

Hope the festive season is going OK even though we are all DMPers

Oh gosh that's awful Puzz :(

I'm glad Creation are not one of our creditors - I would seriously think of going self managed if they were.

  • Ok I having a total panic attack. We have not even made our first DMP payment to SC and I fear it's all gone to pot.

Background...13 plus grand debt to 7 crediitors. After income and outgoings 74 pounds available for payment to SC. Just got notice SC have made the offers to the creditors and 1st payment to them due Jan 1st. We've just enough for an ok xmas paid for with a refund I've received. So all good and time to relax a little.

Nope. Just came home to a letter to learn that we were overpaid child tax credits in the past couple years to the tune of nearly 8000 pounds!!!!!! Have gone through the figures with them and I'm pretty sure they are correct. So what do I do now? They were telling me I need to provide proof of my income and expenses and that I have to set up a payment plan with them directly. They said they are different than other creditors because they are the hmrc.

Now I am panicking that this is going to mean Stepchange no longer consider a DMP the right solution. Isn't it true that the hmrc can do a direct deduction from earnings? Even if this debt could be added to the DMP how are they gonna accept 1 7th of only 74 pounds on an 8 grand debt?

Is there anyone on this forum dealing with this kind of debt?

    So stressed.
  • Hi newbie here!
After many sleepless nights and facing life on £40 until payday I went on to the step change site last night and added it all up... £53k!!!!
Anyway step change have suggested a DMP so I've sent off for the pack to set it all up. I have never missed a payment on any of my debts. The monthly minimum is always met but generally I have to spend on them to survive and they are all maxed out and we have literally nothing to live on. All the Christmas presents are bought but we need to eat!
Anyway..... I set up a basic account with nationwide last night but it won't all bet set up in time for my wages to be paid in until the end of January. Do I pay the minimum on everything again at the end of this month and live on nothing whilst waiting for the DMP to be set up? Do I contact barclaycard and natwest (loan, cc and huge overdraft) and next and tell them I'm setting up a DMP or just not pay them? Also how does the overdraft get sorted? Do I just move all of my direct debits to my new account and leave the natwest account to be dealt with by DMP?
I hate the idea of not paying my debts but also can't cope like this for much longer!
Any help would be great, as you can see I am at the very beginning and it's all so scary!!!
