  • Just want to say thanks for the support, it does really help, really really appreciate the replies, thank you
  • Hi all

Hellifax have passed one of our loan accounts to akinika debt agency. The very lovely people at akinika wrote asking us to contact them urgently so that they can 'confirm your liability for this overdue account' and once liability confirmed they will be 'able to asses your financial circumstances and agree with you how best you can repay the outstanding debt'

    As if.....talk to the [STRIKE]hand.[/STRIKE]..er StepChange:rotfl:

We have emailed and advised of the dmp with SC and we have notified SC. Simples;)

    Hi all,

Need some advice / support please. My partner has been told today that where she works had received a complaint about her and told her to leave and they will pay her to end of week. She has only had the job 3 months, and we were settled into our DMP of £318 a month. Just got off the phone with Step Change, went through a budget plan review, we are now down to £34 a month DMP to 5 creditors. Both feeling really low :(, we thought things had turned a corner. We are really worried the creditors will not be happy and take further action, has anyone else had to do this? We are hoping that employment can be found soon, Step Change have put it down as within 12 months.

    Thanks

A few people have already said some great things here. I may be self-managed but that makes no difference.....it's the same old predators out there and we all have a direct relationship with them even if some people have Step Change administering and advising.

Over the past few years when arrears and serious bills have needed paying, I have taken the predators down to £1 a month. You could too :) if that doesn't fit with Step Change it is very easy to Self Manage if you should need to.

She then mentioned keeping up the payments or I could get defaulted.. yes please I said.. well after a while she said why? explained about the credit file etc. I also said I was under the impression that when a debt was passed to a DCA it had to be defaulted, she says not... so still in limbo land with this one... Any clues anyone...??? I'm more than happy to take it to the FOS if I have a proper case.

    Puzz.......I said this :o !!

I had two Barklaycards but paid them off in the good times so I have not been through all of this !!!! with them. They were a target to pay off as I liked them much less than some others.

Anyway, as we know....I had 20 predators. All have defaulted....many sold on the debt and some have appointed DCA's but retained the debt themselves. None have sold a debt that they haven't defaulted first! I am gobsmacked and very, very sorry if I have misled :o!!

    I am wondering........

    - Has the debt actually been sold to PRAT or are they just an appointed DCA of Barklay's? If the latter, I suppose I could understand.
    - Has the person at PRAT made a mistake?
    - Or is Brog just deluded?

The way I have said it is the way it has been for me and the way I have been told by numerous predators to be the the way that it works. Just imagine if all of the highly respectable Hyacinth's and Margot's who meticulously keep their credit cards up to date suddenly received letters from the grimy PRAT Group? Without mention of 'default?' There would be rioting on the streets of Surbiton :rotfl:!!

Barklaycard is out on its own there is no doubt and we know their methods and administration are flawed. The concern for yourself Puzz is that you want a default registered with effect from the earliest possible date and I am so sorry to have suggested that you must have been defaulted if, in fact you aren't yet. :(

You may not want to listen to me now but what I would do would be to establish with certainty exactly how many months in arrears a Barklaycard account has to be before it is defaulted. Mostly with my cc accounts it had to be six months in arrears. If, for example the contractual minimum payment were £100 per month and through the DMP and I was paying £50 per month, the default would come at the end of 12 months ie when I fell behind by £600 (six month's arrears.)

If you can work this out and find that Barklaycard did not default at the time they should have then I suggest this is the basis of a complaint and demand to backdate the default, following up with FOS if they are not helpful.

I hope Barklaycard will come clean about when they do or 'should' default. They do know the answer but I hope they will tell you without any messing about. I wonder if this is mentioned in the small print of any literature or on their website?

All the best with it Puzz :).

  • Hi all,

Not been on for a while, but thought my experience was worth mentioning. It may or may not help someone.

I am on a DMP with stepchange. All barring Barclaycard/Argos stopped interest and defaulted.

In June I had to reduce payments down to £5 per creditor for two months. I spoke to them all personally and they were all quite positive.

Barclaycard agreed to stop interest for two months, but actually they never restarted it! They have now also sent me a letter defaulting me (almost 3 years in to the DMP).

So I would perhaps suggest a break from paying may be what is required to get the default and also interest stopped.

Does anyone know if it is possible to get them to backdate the default?

    Thank

Thanks to everyone on the DMP forum, and to SC for helping me out of this huge hole.
  • Thanks, grant1wish, for that useful post:T

I haven't needed to make reduced payments on my DMP yet but might in the near future. I was panicking a bit about what repercussions there might be but it looks, from your experience, that it can have positive outcomes:j.

Did you discuss the reduced payments with SC first or just contact the individual creditors and then told SC to reduce the payments?

I hope your finances have returned to normal now:beer:.

Can't advise on backdating defaults but someone else will be sure to know:)

    Hi,

Have you actually got a big red D on your credit file? BC are notorious for sending default notices and not actually defaulting you. Please let us know as I have yet to find anyone who has actually got a D from BC..???

Hi patch, glad to hear it's going ok now, I think maybe if you opened savings acc with someone you bank with already it wouldn't be a problem, not sure about anyone else, but it would be a shame wouldn't it as you are not asking for credit,

I think I opened my post office on line account whilst in DmP, but o can't recommend it as I find the access clunky.

I know it's a fear of humiliation and rejection, but if you open it with the attitude 'it's their loss if the say no' you might feel like you can try and apply.

Thanks Sazzie. I was looking at the Post Office but think we might avoid them. Our bank does instant savings and we can apply through the banking app so may give that a go. Definitely is a bit of a fear of rejection, but will go in with your attitude and see what happens :-)

Good luck, and it's a shame we are afraid of Having savings isn't it. What about a doo dah, oh whaddyacallit, community savings thingies....?
