Ah, thanks so much January! I'll crack on and try and get that written tomorrow. That particular debt is with Hfax, so it's encouraging to see you say that they responded quickly to you. Did they refund the interest like BC did? Or just stop charging it from when you wrote to complain?

Also need to send a cca request letter to at least one other creditor. Is it only debts taken out before 2007 that it's worth sending the cca request to? Thanks again :)

After a year and a half Lloyds have binned off the agreement re the oversraft and just started applying charges for being unorthorised. Who to contact first. Then or SC? Might go in branch!!

    Hi Snowbean,

Helifax refunded the interest and charges that had been applied. Once we had made it clear the DMP was not entered into lightly and evidenced in the letter we were very aware of the impact on our credit rating etc they were really supportive.

    Good luck

Thanks January, that's encouraging to hear! We're going to be trying to make some settlement offers, due to my parents offering to help us, but I'm going to see how far I get with the interest complaint and cca requests first. Just need to get on with it!

Hi Sourcrates - hope you're keeping well. Lady M said her debt had been 'sold' to NCO Europe. When I spoke to NCO the lady I spoke to told me they were the in-house collection arm of Shop Direct. Shop Direct own Littlewoods, Very, K&Co, Isme and Woolworths. I think they just like debtors to worry a bit more when they say they have sold the debt to NCO ;) People like Lady M will not realise that NCO = Very = Littlewoods etc. etc.

Ah, I think you're right. This is all so confusing to me. :o

I'd get the washer dryer sorted if I were you LadyM. If you contact SC, and explain you've an emergency, you can usually agree to reduce your payment / make token payments to allow you to cover the cost of the emergency.
Do you have anything in your budget to put a little aside to save for emergencies in the future? If not, you ought to x

Ask SC to drop to token payment long enough to cover the cost and to then build up an emergency fund of about the same amount, even if this means doing it for 3 months instead of 1 or 2 months. They will be cool with that.

Call as I'm a week in waiting for a reply to an email! Trying to drop to token payments for a few months but did so last year so they might be arsey but they won't first time around....

Sorry about your washer dryer, LadyM:(

I had something similar early this year which involved several essential appliances dying, car needing expensive 'bits', vet fees and urgently needed new spectacles. Panic stations all round:eek:

snowbean suggests trying to put aside a little each month for emergencies and I agree with that but sometimes the actual emergencies are far more expensive than the amount saved to cover them:(. How we miss having credit cards at times like that:o.

Please phone Stepchange as I did. They were so understanding and very quick to help. I dropped my monthly payment to them from £732 to £40 a month and they suggested I take 4 months rather than the 2 that I originally asked for. They suggested it was a good idea to build up little emergency cushion with the surplus 'saved' after replacing/repairing my equipment. SC even suggested I rejig my budget slightly to give myself a bit of future leeway:T

Creditors didn't bat an eye about it, I didn't have to contact them myself, and my DFD is only very slightly longer as a result.

Thanks everyone for your help. I contacted SC and they advised that I miss this months payment. They said that they'll let me creditors know but that I should let them know too. I hate dealing with creditors. :(
