The only thing I'm worried about Blisteringblue is them issuing a CCJ. Because of the nature of my work, I can't have a ccj registered against my name.
Also not sure how to go about going self managed...been with Payplan for over 4years now and has been pretty smooth up until now!

I wouldn't panic about a CCJ. Going self managed was the best thing we did. We have paid token payments for a few months and have adjusted our budget to mean we pay less than we did with stepchange. We didn't change our income we needed to retain more than we had with stepchange.

I doubt a creditor would take you to court for a CCJ if you are making payments. They may not like the payments and they may tell you that - tough. They are very unlikely to take you to court even then.

My job means I would lose it if I got a CCJ but I really am not worried anymore (I did initially worry about that a lot). The creditor may not lot you paying more into a private pension, but you are allowed to do this. Don't let them bully you. Stick to your guns with your figures. If you want to stay with your DMP management company tell them the figures are correct and you can't find any more cash for this creditor. If they don't want to work with you then go self managed asap.

    Hi,

My first post to the forum, so apologies....

Been on a DMP with Stepchange for a few years now things going ok, tough at times but getting there, slowly! I should be coming up to clearing my first debt which is with Santander.

September should be my last payment however when I check my credit file is says that the account was Satisfied on 05/07/15 and that the balance is £0 from this date. Stepchange has been paying £28 each month to them, where has this been going?

So I'm confused, can anyone explain why this is?

Thought I would ask here first before contacting Santander as there is probably an easy explanation.

    Thanks

    J

Welcome to the DMP thread, vwright:). Anything you need to know, just ask. There's usually someone who will know the answer (normally not me, I'm still asking questions:o).

I might be able to help you with your current question though as I had the same situation with Santander. My debt showed as 'satisfied' on Noddle even though it definitely wasn't, and with a balance of zero. I had no idea why this was the case and to be honest I just kept paying it (via Stepchange) and never contacted Santander about it:o.

This was my smallest debt ( an overdraft) and when it got down to below £200 I decided to pay it off. I contacted Santander to ask the balance and it was exactly what I expected it to be, given the amount Stepchange had been paying them every month.

I don't think there's anything sinister going on with them, they just seem to do things differently to all the other banks;).

If I were you I'd phone Santander and they'll put your mind at rest. Have you not been getting statements from them at any time during your DMP?

I sent a letter to a creditor two weeks ago tomorrow re: settlement figure. I didn't offer just asked for a reduced settlement figure. Heard nothing yet. I really want to get this little debt gone. Should I ring and prompt them or leave it a while?

    Hi Brogden

So I completed my annual review early June and now PP have come back to me stating that Link Financial are stating that £250 for pension contributions is too much. They are saying that as we are payng into an ISA at present, we can reduce this and that usually private pensions only go up to £100...is this correct? Apparently unless we don't reduce this amount, Link F will not accept an informal rpymnt arrangement.
    I'm really stressed now!!:(

    What do I do?

First don't stress over it, just keep paying, as BB says worst thing they can do is really a ccj and unlikely to do that.
Have you been on the pensions forum - mse - to see what is considered a sensible amount to save? . I can see that £250 might sound a lot but as I pay 9.8% I'm paying more than that on PAYE.
If you've some back up from recommended figures, reputable organasations like moneywise etc, you might feel better about standing your ground.

Ring and offer very low 10-15% to see what they say

Received my first 2 letters from creditors this morning.
One from Lloyds saying I did not pay my bill and my next months bill would include charges with no mention of the 30 day no contact period they had promised me 2 weeks ago or anything about the DMP offer from StepChange.

And the other from MBNA saying they accepted the payment and stopping all interest and charges until my situation improves which I am really pleased about so I just hope the others will do the same.

Reading the posts here has been great for me and just keep remembering they can't have what I have not got!

Also remember creditors have different process in place and some will send out the automated letters for ages and some won't. Some will tell you they've accepted, some will accept but won't tell you and some will say they won't accept, but we just keep paying them the DMP payment.
Stay strong, the initial bit is one of the hardest to get through, gets better after this.

It's too early for my brain to compute percentages  but getting on for year ago, they refused settlement of £175 on a £425 debt. They were obviously happy with their fiver a month.

Agreed unlikely to take you up, your last offer was around 40%, but it'll start them thinking and open a conversation :D

Quick question, I've updated my signature as my DFD has started to come down a bit, how do I put crossed out text in my signature ?
