Spoken to SC this morning and will be doing a joint DMP with husband. Just have to hope creditors will accept payments and freeze interest.

Try not to worry, SC will say pay them the DMP amount whatever they say:eek:

Re freezing interest, you might not get specific replies from creditors, e.g One CC has never contacted me in 3 years but they froze interest straight away, never went to DCA and is marked as up to date on noddle. Others might let you know what they're doing, or just send a statement with revised interest shown. My message here is just keep an eye on what they are doing and then complain if interest is added.

If you read through the thread you'll see a few notorious cards are hard to get frozen and interest from.

Hi, We are on a DMP with stepchange. We've managed to get our debt down from just under 40.000. to 26.000
We've decided to go the self managed route to really tackle the last part of the debt. I find with Stepchange we just pay the amount and tend to forget about it. I think this way I can really focus on each amount and try and get to the stage of F&F offers.
I have looked at the website recommended and found the template letter to let Stepchange know what is happening.
For anyone who has done this how did it work. did you just cancel Stepchange DD let everyone know and set up DD or standing orders to the individual companies. I know what I want to do, just not sure about the process? thanks
Started Self Managed DMP 10th May 2017.
Working hard to get rid of our debt.
  • as some of you were aware I had to add an unexpected gas and electric bill on to my DMP only one month in from extra energy. I have two concerns. firstly I sent them an email letting them (extra energy) know that I couldn't afford to pay the £500+ bill in one go as I was on a DMP then included ref number for them and also I got married last year so they need to change my name on the account and also included my marriage cert. now they have not replied to my email sent over 3 weeks ago. on checking my online account with them it just says unpaid DD of £500+ (cant remember exact figures). I have been receiving 4-5 phone calls a day from them only one left a voice message from someone demanding to speak to me urgently about this debt. Is it likely they have seen the email and chosen to ignore it? Do energy companies tend to sell on the debt? I know I'm being daft but so far these have been the most pesky ones and we have only just begun with them! thankyou all

p.s. they are an old supplier we are now with a different company so they cant cut us off so to speak.
Love my DMP left to pay £0/ £10162.51

Have you contacted StepChange (if that's who you're doing your DMP with) and talked about this? They will be able to allay your fears and explain what to do next. In my experience it's best to phone SC and talk to a real person rather than sending an email or message on the website 'contact us' form. Much quicker and comprehensive response that way. You may have to be 'on hold' for a while before you're put through to someone but well worth the wait IMO.

    Try not to worry:kisses3:

    Hi Julie,

I went self managed from SC a few months back. I used Nedcab to do my letters and i & e, but I didn't want to change the payments to each creditor so I have carried on with the same payments as previous with SC. You will need to contact SC, this was the hard bit..! i emailed and then rang and wrote and then they kept sending me emails and texts etc.. but we got it cancelled in the end...! Just remember to cancel the dd to SC !!! Don't set up dd's with creditors only standing orders as you then set the amount you want to pay. I wrote to all my creditors but at least half either ignored me or failed to read the letter properly, so I ended up speaking to quite a few of them! you will need to get the account number and sort code from each creditor to set up the payment...
As long as you are good with budgeting and happy to speak to creditors you will be fine..!

    Hi,

I would second what cbc says, it would really be in your best interest to ring both parties to find out what is happening. Emails and letters don't always get to where you want them to...!

Quick update I have just received an email from Extra energy stating they have now updated my name details and if I would like some financial advise to contact their team to work out a payment plan to suit me and them and a phone number to call with any issues. Following on from this do I still need to call them? I did say in the first email that I was on a DMP which they don't appear to have acknowledged in this reply?

    Hey everyone. :)

SC have replied to my email saying that they're requesting all my creditors be written to today with my budget and info, so that's a weight off of my mind.

Also, after waiting months and months, we're finally getting our bathroom re-fit! We live in a 1950s bungalow with the original bathroom and with a wet room, but I find baths alot better for the pain I get with the M.E. so they're putting a bath back in too. :) They said they can start as soon as Monday! However, with 2 young kids, I'm trying to work out how to keep them from annoying the builders and getting in the way!

    Update from me. :)

Just had a letter from Vanquis. They've accepted SCs offer and have frozen all interest and charges. This is my first letter of acceptance and it's amazing how it feels!

Hmmm my mbna account and Natwest has been blocked. All the other creditors are still letting me log in and view the account balance online.

Is there are a reason why some creditors block account access and others don't? It would be really useful to get upto date information on the balances...
