This may help you, this may not but sitting here and now not owing anything to anyone I feel the need to release this...
This week I became debt free. I don't owe anything to anyone. I sat on my bed in August 2012 and cried as we couldn't afford to buy my son a new bed. The lowest point in my life. I was there because life came all to easy for me in my 20's. I got cocky and racked up a huge debt that I had to work hard to pay off in my 30s.
I'm there now. It's done and paid for. I just wanted to pass on a few things I learned from my journey.
1 - My life would be a mess without CCCS / Stepchange. Their non judgemental attitude, always considerate, never patronising attitude I cannot put into words. Thank you so much.
2 - 'most' creditors want to actually help. Although when you get the computer generated threatening letter it scares the life out of you. You are doing what is right and paying back what you owe. Be it a £1 a week or £100 a week. Don't forget that you are putting right your wrongs.
3 - Mental health. Only now do i realise what a stress this has put on me as a person. As a worker, a father and a husband. The strain this put on me personally has been immense. Look after yourselves and see someone if you need to.
That's my rant over. All I wanted to say (and please don't feel this is patronising) is that each and every person on here is struggling through their debt but I am proud of every post I read. You are all a great community and you are all doing the right thing. Don't let the b$@7ards grind you down. Stick to your guns, pay back what you can, when you can and you'll get there.
Prayers with you all in your journey and I hope you get where I am soon and thank you all so much for being a friend on here offering advice when I needed it.

Well done, the trick now is to stay that way, not always easy.
Well done for using Stepchange, and not a fee taking DMC, like so many people seem to opt for, for some unknown reason.
I echo most of your sentiments, although the part about creditors "wanting to help" has more to do with regulator advice to treat customers fairly, on pain of Hugh fines, rather than divine intervention !!!
repaying debt does take its toll on you, both physically, and in some cases mentally as well, it is not an easy path to tread.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards.
