Hope you can help. My Husband is to have an 2 day induction at Sainsbury cannot get time off current employers as it has all been booked. He might have to have one of the days sick. The problem is when arranging the Induction he cannot get a straight answer from HR whether he should now give his notice in(4 weeks) or wait till he has gone for the Induction very frustrating.

Surely your husband would have handed his notice in to his current employer, and would have notified Sainsburys of when he would be available to start his employment with them?
If he is still working with his current employer at the same time as working for Sainsburys, although not illegal, it would make things very complicated, and could be a breach of contract.
If he goes sick when he is not actually sick, then that would be fraud.I consider myself to be a male feminist. Is that allowed?0 -
What? Whenever I've had an induction for a job, that's been the start date. How is he going to start the job if he hasn't given his notice?
Confirm the start date with HR then give the notice asap.0 -
I've had induction days before actually starting employment. Once for an NHS post my induction day was two months before. They paid me as a temp with time sheets for the two days.
It's likely to be a corporate indication rather than one for the specific job. They'll do it for a big group who'll presumably all have different start dates.0 -
Had the mass corporate induction previously but it has always been the next one following your start date.
Does he have a start date yet for the job? I am guessing this is a replacement for his existing job and not a second job0 -

but he will not be sick - he will technically working elsewhere. if another employee on a day off or in their lunch hour should happen to see him in the supermarket. he would be available to start the next day, subject to references:eek::eek:. sorry sickness is what it is - not an extension of a day off or holiday.Dogs return to eat their vomit, just as fools repeat their foolishness. There is no more hope for a fool than for someone who says, "i am really clever!"0 -
Having worked at Sainsbury's before his induction is his first day, he should have already handed in and worked most of his notice. In the induction they will then sort out your rota's for the next week or two unless you have told Sainsbury's you can not start till x date, if thats the case you will call up nearer the time to when you have agreed to start to find out your shifts.0
