I've now read all of it and think that there's v little in it for home owners. There's something for FTBs, the bit about insurance premiums, plus of course the changes in BTL.

Other than that, the budget is a lot about social engineering, so it depends more on things like whether people who currently get in work benefits will be able to afford once changes come in, or conversely whether low income couples on the new min wage who don't qualify for bens will be able to afford something if they earn a bit more.

You forget to mention the doubling of the lodger allowance. Having one property just became even more lucrative.

Having anymore to rent our however, became much less.

Also sitting in a council house when you're on a decent wage and not buying just became a stupid idea.
Proudly voted remain. A global union of countries is the only way to commit global capital to the rule of law.

I await the howls of pain from the Guardianistas as they tie themselves in knots trying to point out why some bloke earning £100k plus bonuses should be paying a pittance in rent whilst families live in B&Bs.

I also look forward to the dumb-bottom name given to this. Bedroom Tax was bad enough.

    Sorry don't get this.
Why is he paying a pittance in rent?
Because he's prepared to live in a single room in a shared house?

I can assure you it's not a pittance in London where most of the £100K plus jobs are.

Op when people start threads it's more normal for them to start by saying ...... "This is what i think and this is why i think it"
    Not just Yay or Naa.

Up until yesterday I lived in a county called Cheshire.

Now, apparently, it's actually been rebranded as part of a megapolis called "Northern Powerhouse" or something.

That's got to be worth a couple of quid on the house price right? :D

I think you may have got that wrong Kabayiri, when you were Cheshire you would have been posh, now you're with the rest of us and common-as-muck. You're car insurance will sky-rocket now.

It is a pittance if you got into social housing and now can't be shifted.

To me it's the same as being allowed to claim benefits forever just because you were once ill or unemployed.

Welfare is meant to give poor people a leg up in life, not give them cheap housing forever simply because they got to the top of an arbitrary list.

    Ah I see.
Totally agree that people who don't need it because of circumstances changing shouldn't have it.

There are people in genuine need who can't gain access to decent accommodation whilst people on six figure sums are living in subsidised housing. It's nuts.

For many of us working in industry the effects of the GFC were very clear to see. I remember immediate cutbacks which affected my work within weeks.

The crash seemed to pass people who rely on the state by though.

I honestly think they have been working on the basis that things would always remain the same...

    ...except that is never guaranteed.
