Yes if they had sent you correct details before you attempted payment it is very reasonable you should have checked (and actually unreasonable you had to ask for them twice) -a very easy position for them to take if it ever gets to courtIf I was requiring payment I would triple check the number I was sending just to make sure.
Nope, the onus is FIRMLY on the one making payment
I'm afraid it seems you have no leg whatsoever to stand on and the mistake is 99.9% yours
Good luck chasing the 0.01% of the responsibility that's theirs trying to pin it on them0
