The easy way to do this is find a gaming PC worth about £1300+, note the parts and then find them for around £1000. Put it together yourself and BAM.

I'm not sure why people are suggesting the 4690K as it seems a little wasted if you aren't going to overclock it. I assume you won't be doing this given you're asking whether you should buy or build.

well the price difference between the 'k' and non-'k' chips are typically a couple of quid, so may as well have the over-clocking functionality there as not.

As above, i'd go for a K series chip for an extra few £ than a regular.
    Easier to overclock.

I've had my 2nd generation i5 2500k overclocked from 3.3ghz to 4.5ghz for almost 4 years now with no real issues. Even though it's an older cpu there isn't any games that seem to max it out. They're all gpu limited.

    Get yourself onto forums.overclockers.co.uk

Post your budget and requirements for the build in the General Hardware section. Read the replies. Do some research and pick which components are the best from the suggested builds.

Feel free to shop around for the same components on other popular component websites to reduce the costs even more (watch out for shipping, but broadly speaking you want to consider aria.co.uk/ebuyer.com as well as overclockers.co.uk itself).

After checking compatibility (feel free to ask for further advice on the overclockers.co.uk forums), place your order and spend the time you are waiting for your components watching youtube videos on basic assembly skills. If you don't feel you can do it, look for a Facebook friend who can ^

Truth be told, I wouldn't spend two thirds budget on a new PC these days and I'd still be able to play games just fine.

    Good luck.
£1322. You don't need to know what this is about.

some of the review machines from pcspecialist are often cheaper than building yourself.

Personally I built myself - pcpartpicker.com/uk is awesome for pricing up and speccing out your machine.
