Can my husband get a mortgage in his name without my credit affecting the mortgage. I have been told that if we separate all out finances, i.e. get separate bank accounts and put his name on all the bills, then my credit wont be visible. is this correct. We are thinking of moving in with his parents for 12 months to save a deposit, but i don't want to do that, if at the end of the 12 months we still can't gt a mortgage. please help!

You'll need to close any joint accounts and carry out disassociations with all three credit reference agencies for this to work properly.

Can't say if he'll get a mortgage at the end of all that, as no way of knowing his position now and/or then.

  • his salary is over £30000 and we are working on his credit score at the moment, so will be in a better position in 12 months time, so long as we can make sure my credit does not affect it .

How do I carry out disassociations and who are the 3 credit reference agencies please?

    Close the joint accounts first.

Then contact Experian, Equifax and Call Credit for disassociation forms or have a look on their respective websites.

You don't have to have joint finances just because you're married.
  • I've just had a quick look on Experian and it says that they can only do a disassociation if we live at separate address? please advise

As long as you have no financial link you can request a disassociation. The link to do this with Experian online is:
