Paying too much council tax?

Is council tax paid per house, or per person?

I checked my tax on Turn 2 Us and it says I should only be paying £15.50 per month, but I am currently paying £19 per month for Band A.

Basically, I am not sure if it is only working the tax out for myself, and not working out for my partner too?

We are both unemployed so we receive council tax reduction.

£19 is quite cheap...most councils charge not much less than £900 per year or £75 a month. So...the figure includes a council tax reduction as you have a low income.

It could be the annual bill discounted by what they expect you'll get then divided by 10...it could be the first month wasn't paid whilst they deciding how much discount you should get then that amount was then spread over the year. Could be any number of factors.

I really wouldn't worry about it. The numbers you get on turn2us are an estimate. The exact figures depend on so much.

:p Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S) :p Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money. :p

Each council runs a local scheme so the figures on other sites are are only an estimate - if in doubt ask the council regarding the calculation but as the previous post says there's a lot of factors which can change the instalments due.
I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.
