What does DJ hire usually cost?

I've emailed for a few quotes but I have no idea what to expect.

DJ would be required for 5-6 hours, needs to provide own equipment, expecting 100-200 guests.

Any ball parks/personal experiences appreciated :)

Where I live a disco style DJ with their own equipment and public liability insurance is £250 for an evening. We are country-ish, I'd imagine prices could be much higher in some other areas.
  • Our wedding dj cost 180 but we did have quotes up to 400, its worth shopping around
  • Wow, the quotes vary a lot..

Have you hear about a silent Disco?

I think it's a brilliant idea, because at weddings the older members of the family just want to catch up and gossip with people they don't see very often.

Silent disco, for those who don't know, consists of a set up where the people on the dance floor wear headphones and only the ones with the head phones on can hear the music!

Super idea, but I don't know how much that will cost, I suspect a bit more...

I am organising a 70th birthday party for 50-60 guests.

I wanted to use a local one but in Rutland that meant a 'from £400' price. Widened search to include Leicestershire and found they were 'from £150' a big difference. I have booked one for £200 which will include lighting effects. A play list of 30 songs from us and they play requests.
  • We were £350 for our wedding 3 years ago.
