Freezing yogurt?

I don't think I'll be able to use all the yogurt in my fridge before they go off. Can they be frozen and thawed later?

I've got two 500ml unopened pots, can I just stick them straight in the freezer as is? And once opened will it last as long in the fridge as unfrozen ones?

You can freeze it open the carton and stir well prior to freezing, Some with a higher water content may split slightly but as a general rule most are fine and as for date wise if you have a week on it prior to freezing then allow a week after defrosting it.

Don't even bother to defrost once frozen. Frozen yoghurt is a really lovely dessert

What is the date on your yoghurt ? I find it lasts well after the sell by date unopened, and even plain yoghurt lasts for a month after the date and after being opened, after all it is just a kind of stale milk ! I only chuck it when it grows mould. That said, I also freeze yoghurt tubes and small cartons or else the chaps in the house grumble about being given out of date food.
Still virtually alcohol free since 4/1/15. (10 Xmas/ New Year/Birthday drinks)
It takes 3500 calories to lose a pound in weight. Target 13 lbs weight loss. 18.5lbs lost 2nd May - 28 September.
  • Not sure of the date, but I buy these ones regularly and sometimes they seem to grow greenery quite quickly. I think it's because they're not single-serving tubs, rather I keep opening them every day to have some for breakfast. I should probably decant them into smaller tubs, but who has time for that?

Thanks all, I'll freeze them and see how it gets on.

You reminded me...I slung a pot in the freezer a couple of days ago to chill it right down, and forgot about it.

Eating it now. It's delicious but may take me an hour to get to the bottom of as its frozen solid :o

A drop of yoghurt for pudding - no wonder weight watchers works - that's some pretty stiff cutting back!!

Freeze in icecube trays for smaller portions - silicone ones work well. Either pop the tray in a bag, or once frozen pop out each cube and bag up, to prevent freezer burn.
