R.E.D. on my supply meter

Options
I have noticed since a few days ago my normal electricity meter alternates between the meter reading and the letters 'R E D'.
I understand that this means 'Reverse Energy Detected' which is of course correct, but I have read in some places that this could also indicate tampering with the supply meter.

So, is it ok to just ignore it or should I contact my DNO and tell them about it?

It's your supplier you contact with any issues you have with meters.
Unless it's gas and is leaking, then run like hell!!

Seriously, your chosen utility co is responsible for the meter as far as you're concerned, and they'll contact whoever is responsible if there is a problem.

It's completely normal. As you say, it's to bring attention to the fact that something 'odd' has happened. The meter reader could then report this if they think something dodgy is up. However, for micro-gen with export, it's expected, and will be ignored.

Some meters have a minimum export (in kW) before they go rEd, so it's possible on a smaller system to have an install late in the year, but not see red till spring.

    Thanks guys.
I have just been on the phone to EDF Energy (my supplier) just to cover my own back. They say as long as it doesn't go backwards then there won't be a problem and they know I have Solar PV anyway.

As a side thing, I have been on the phone quite a lot to EDF Energy over the last week and can honestly say their customer service so far seems excellent. They are always polite and friendly and even have a nice chat with you.
