Mattress - 30 day trials any good?

We're in the market for a new mattress (and bedstead). We've been round the shops and seen some we like (and many we don't). Trouble is, trying them in the shop for 5-10 minutes isn't really much of a test if you plan on sleeping on it every night for the next 10 years. I can read reviews etc, but what would really make our minds up is a few nights sleeping on it. Our current mattress is overdue to replacement and we're sleeping badly on it. This is a decision we need to get right.


From googling it seems that there are a few companies offering trial periods (mostly 30 days) whereby you can return the mattress for a refund/exchange if you don't get on with it.


Just wondering if anyone has used such a service and found it useful?

Just watch the terms and conditions like a hawk though.

What happens to the returned mattresses? Who funds that?

Most places that offer a return either have T+C's that are very strict to began with or they are very over priced to cover any returns.
