Domestic cleaning jobs?

Hi I am recently unemployed and looking for work and wondered if anyone has worked as a domestic cleaner, working in peoples homes?
I have applied for a cleaning job that says flexi hours and working on a self employed basis for the company.
Be grateful for any advice and if it's worth doing?
Thanks

If you are willing to work on a self-employed basis for a company, why not just go self-employed?0

Try searching for housekeeper vacancies,.why work for someone else?
Good luck0 -

This is somewhat a contradiction in terms as you are either self employed or you work for a company.
I agree with others though, what are you concerns about going it alone and not handing a slice to the agency?
Not worked in domestic cleaning, though the Mrs had before I met her, but have attempted to hire one via an agency and ultimately gave up.
Its been a few years now so may not be 100% accurate but I think we went through 3 of them in the space of as many months. First one my wife caught going through her jewelry/ papers on a desk etc, nothing taken but an unnecessary intrusion. The second did the jobs she wanted rather than what she'd been asked to do and more than once the Mrs found her sat watching the TV, in principle if it was a fixed price job then wouldnt care but it was per hour so I did. Final one turned up only to 1 in 3 appointments, she had 5 relatives hospitalised and 2 pets die in the space of a month as her excuses as to why she neither turned up nor let us know in advance.
A reliable cleaner who does a good job and isnt nosey appears to be as rare as hens teeth.0 -

Hi, I am shocked to hear all of this, it's something I would'nt intend to do anyway.
Having done some research, there's quite a few companies/agencies that hire you on a self employed basis (must be of some benefit to the company) they pay you and then you contact HMRC to disclose income etc.
I had slightly thought of going it alone as seems to b a few ads on gumtree wanting cleaners and my long term idea is that I want to go self employed anyway in a different trade and this is to help me build an income.
Food for thought!! :rotfl:Thanks
