Do you have a college nearby that has a hairdressing salon? .... We have a lot of local salons that offer trainee day appointments, I got my hair highlighted and cut for £25 on a Bank Holiday:D
I looked into this where I live in the last couple of years - and got a £70 quote (hair highlights/cut) from the College, same as the local salons. Even a student doing it is £50+
Then I looked further afield and I think I've found a college 25 miles away that'll do it for £30 or so.... so I figure it's cheaper to do the 50 mile round trip (say £7-8 fuel) and pay £30 than try to find it cheaper closer.0 -
Or... Get a really good cleanser, toner and moisturiser and diy
best investment and you can get a great deal!

Hi,
Theres not too much to save on the SOA, you just need to have laser focus on paying of this debt. If you do nothing to your SOA and just stick to it and pay everything spare to your debt then it will be gone in under 18 months. Take a second job on weekends or evenings and it will be gone in under a year.
Try to change the CC to a 0% one. Kill that 36%+ one ASAP thats just horrible!! Do you have anything you could sell?
It good news you can get rid of this debt and quickly, get to it!!!£1000 Emergency fund No90 £1000/1000

Oh and if you keep changing your bank account to the reward ones you can pick up around £450 which would reduce your debt by about 7%!!£1000 Emergency fund No90 £1000/1000

Good luck
Thank you ellesbelles, I will. I used to pay up front for line rental and it was only then £3.49 for broadband, but I didn't have the money to pay up front this time. Definitely need to review this!Debt Apr 15 - £6895.44Apr 17 - £2500

At your current rate of paying, it's going to take 25 months to clear it, at a cost of £203 in interest.
If you paid £300 to it, at the next payment date, then cleared it the one after, it'd cost you just £7 in interest.
Oh my goodness, that's terrible. Thank you for working out and making it very clear that this is not good! I've had a productive day with this debt today. I found £6.66 in my TCB account, £100 in a forgotten account, £130 withdrawn from PayPal and £20 from a friend meaning that this account will now stand at £263.81. I'll reduce my over payments on the credit cards this next month so it should just about be cleared then. Thank you againDebt Apr 15 - £6895.44Apr 17 - £2500

Above is what you'd get covered (or not need to pay yourself) on the dole. I've made the assumption clothes spending, haircuts and vehicle costs would be "for work".
JSA for a single person is £73.10, or £316.76/month to pay all the bills and eat.
So on that measure you start by over-spending on the basics by £110/month.
So, if you were on the dole, entertainment, lottery, facial would go out of the window, along with the emergency fund and Christmas. There goes £90/month!
The rest will have to come out of your food budget.
Thanks for this, it has certainly made me think how I would manage if I were to be on the dole. This has focused my mind now. I've cancelled my facial, I won't do the lottery and I've got no nights or days out planned, apart from visiting friends. I'll make some brownies instead of buying a cake to take round! Have you tried DIY facials and hair colour? Do you have a college nearby that has a hairdressing salon? Our local one does pedicures/manicures ans well as all beauty treatments. You would have to take time off work though. We have a lot of local salons that offer trainee day appointments, I got my hair highlighted and cut for £25 on a Bank Holiday:D
Thank you, I will try him on it once he's eaten his way through his supply!
I'll definitely look into diy facials, I've got loads of lotions and potions just waiting to be used. I've cancelled my facial next month so this will be better than nothing!
As for hair, my hairdresser is the tutor at the local college! She comes to my house so it's cheaper than seeing her at the place she used to work, however I'm going to try and eek it out to 12 or so weeks between appointments. I've seen her for years and she does a nice job......and I'm scared of telling her that I'm going somewhere else! When she broke her leg I had to reluctantly find someone else and I felt like I was cheating on her. I know, crazy!Debt Apr 15 - £6895.44Apr 17 - £2500

Crikey, that's madness! I only pay £55 or £60 depending if it's t-section or half head and that includes cut and blow dry. Don't feel quite as bad now! As I said above, I'm going to try and eek it out a bit longer between appointments - that ombre look is on trend isn't it? :rotfl: Thank you for your replyDebt Apr 15 - £6895.44Apr 17 - £2500
