Migraine aura

Options
I suffer from migraines, maybe a few a year. I usually never get any kind of aura before them.

Today I woke up with a headache, felt just like a tension headache as it was all over my head and I have been stressed lately. Its also been very hot here lately too. The headache mostly went away though.

About 2 hours ago, I was in the car (as a passenger) and I noticed a dark dot in my vision. I thought it was just from looking at something reflective and it was a sun spot but then I noticed it got bigger and I couldn't read half of reg plates or signs and then flashing lights and zig zags appeared. They took over my whole vision. It lasted about 15/20 mins. I was absolutely terrified. I managed to get an emergency GP appointment and he checked my eyes and BP and all is well. He said it was a classic migraine aura and he gets the exact same.

It scared the crap out of me. I still don't feel right. My vision is back to normal but I feel on edge now. Still have no headache really but feel sick.

Do you guys ever have an aura like this? Did it scare the crap out of you too?

    Yes I get it sometimes.

Had no idea what it was until my mum told me it was a migraine. I get no headache with it.

After 20 mins its normally gone. its annoying but not scary.

I get migraines but only rarely get them with an aura - I agree, it can be really frightening. When I was younger, I would lose vision slowly in my right eye, it was almost like a curtain being drawn very slowly across my eye. More recently, I get a small dot of 'static' in the centre of my vision which slowly gets bigger and bigger until I can't see clearly at all. It usually takes about an hour to get that big and that's normally when the pain and vomiting starts, so I know I need to take painkillers and get home quickly! I generally feel rough for about 24 hours after a bad attack, nauseous and lightheaded, but it does fade.

Thanks for your replies everyone. I have panic disorder as well so the aura made me panic soooooo much. I called NHS 24 and they told me to call my GP. Thankfully everyone was very understanding, especially my GP as he suffers from this aura too. Its not something I ever want to experience again but he said I should prepare for it.

Yes, I get that occasionally. It is freaky. I remember I got one at work once and the text on my PC started rippling and going in waves. I just sat there thinking !!!!!!!

I always feel under the weather and on edge for a couple of days after a migraine. This weather can't be helping so make you are drinking enough water.

Yes i always get this with my migranes. Its normally the first sign for me, followed by the actual migrane going from ' ouch that hurts' to 'oh god please kill me now', followed by the vomiting and all that fun stuff.

Its been a few hours since the aura and I still don't have a headache. I just feel a little sick and very anxious but like I said, I have panic disorder so any anxious feeling I get is amplified. Having a fear of puking doesn't help either!

I did wake up to a headache this morning though that didn't really go fully away with painkillers, maybe that was my migraine?

If it was a migrane, you would definitely know. they are not bad headaches, they are awful, painful, vomit inducing (or at least nausea inducing) things that really wipe you out for a bit.
