Well I guess today is the day I have to change. Just got off the phone after speaking to a really evil nasty person at my bank's debt department. I wanted to say so much to him but I was scared he would take away my overdraft and I am already in enough of a mess. How dare anyone speak to me the way he did. He was patronising and rude and my only wish for him is that he should one day be in the same position as me....

Dont know where to start but have to sit down now and work out how I am going to get through the next month with all the many bills I need to pay.

It sucks being in debt and the only wage earner in the house. It sucks that I just seem to get deeper and deeper into debt and it never ends.

catherine, I know it's hard but please don't cry. The very best advice I can give you is to sit down and compose yourself an SOA, you can find advise on this on southernscousers sticky post at the top of the dfw page. If you post this on here myself and others will have a look over it and make any suggestions we can to try and help.

remember you are not alone in this, we have all been where you are and we know how hurtful ignorant people can be, please don't let them upset you xxx

Catherine, just remember that that man probably can't sleep very well at night if he talks to everyone like that :D

You've come to the right place for advice, you will get so much support here that you will be feeling better in no time. I speak from experience! Post your SOA first so that people can help you and offer suggestions - you may think that you can't save money anywhere and that it's hopeless, but there are some wonderful people here who will offer suggestions on how you can easily cut back and start chipping away at that debt.

And keep in mind that no one can have what you haven't got. There is always a solution and ways to get through it.

    best wishes,

  • Hi there normally people speak to others like that because they have no life of their own. I have people in my work who are majorly snooty when they speak to others but they are usually your comb -over men, smelly women in twinsets, no mates, big ugly folks. So just imagine him sitting there with his greasy hair ,scratching his !!! and give him the finger. Pompous git !!

You don't have to be spoken to in that manner. Refuse to continue the conversation & insist that you are passed on to another member of staff, preferably in a more senior position. If they refuse, tell them to contact you in writing only until such a time when they have been re-trained in customer care. It's an eye opener how different peoples' attitudes can be even in the same company.

I am the only wage earner in my family, so I know how hard having that responsibility is sometimes. Well done for taking the first step and posting on here. Try to do at least a rough SOA as soon as you feel ready to - the sooner you know the score the sooner the wonderful people on this site can start sugesting ways to improve things for you.
Today was the low - but it can and will get better. Just take a look at everyones sigs to see that!

  • I can totally identify with what you are going through. I had to speak to someone at the bank last week as they were refusing to pay our mortgage and adding a £38 fee to our account, as if that is going to help us, although the lady I spoke to did eventually agree to refund that fee for us.

I feel much more positive from just reading this site and I am sure you will get a lot of help here. I haven't got around to posting an SOA yet as I am waiting for some settlement figures, but think we owe around £40,000 to various people. But realising from this forum that you aren't the only one is a really big support. Read the various threads for ways to cut back and I am sure you will begin to feel more in control soon.
