Credit reports

Hi, I'm new here although I have been a reading posts on here nearly every day since last October.

Anyway getting to the point, I've seen various posts where people have commented on their credit scores - how do you find this out, I have access to my experian report via CPP which I check weekly to make sure that there aren't any entries that I don't recognise, and I am guessing by the fact that I dont have any missed payments or CCJS that my rating must be good - but how can you tell??

Many thanks, Clare

There is no such thing as an official credit score. It's just another product that these companies want to sell to you. Different credit companies will judge you on their own lending criteria. However, if you've no missed/late payments or CCJs etc then you can assume that you should be a good lending risk.

  • Ditto Donedoingdebt - but Garlik.com do one for free and can give you an idea - anything suspicious could the be investigated through experian or equifax - only costs £2 for your credit report or a tenner on-line fo instant access. I suggest doing it every other year and keep them - they are a way to keep track on who is searching your details - you may have companies who you haven't even contacted who have searched you (ie the ones who send out catalogues for free credit, credit card companies (HBS -seems to pop up on mine quite regularly and I have never had any dealings with them at all). I personally use them to check for identity theft as they show your financial activity - anything suspicious and check it out immeadiately.
