My experience of the job centre is simple - if I had the choice of another round of cancer treatment or dealing with the Job Centre again 100 times out of 100 I would pick the cancer treatment. Inept advisors, a website which has more dodgy adverts than real ones & an inability to understand basic economics tells you everything.

    Honestly, they are that bad.

It's ironic but the worst place to look for a job is to go to the job centre. Years ago they used to help people find work, nowadays people there are just looking to get a buzz at sanctioning people

My experience hasn't been too bad. I feel it is more a box ticking exercise than to help you find a job.

TBH I'm finding the work programme more helpful than the Job Centre. They've given me tips for interviews etc.

My advisor told me to lie on my CV (and I don't mean just bending the truth). Both he and I had graduated from science degrees and he told me I should put on my CV that I had experience of whatever scientific techniques they were looking for. He told me that's what he does but he's been caught ought a few times at interview. I presume that was why he was still stuck behind a desk in the Job Centre. I on the other hand did not take his advice and now have a lovely career in the field of my degree.

And don't get me started on the guards. I got escorted out of the building whilst trying to answer a phone call which was from the job centre themselves asking me to go to an arranged interview! Why on earth are you not allowed to take telephone calls in that building?

They used to have phones in the centre you could use but they took them away. They dont want anyone in there, not very helpful.
