If the employer is going to pay anything over and above the minimum SSP required by law why shouldn't they require proof that somebody is actually ill?
You want different rules for SSP and any other statutory payment like full pay during some or all of the notice.0 -
If it's the employer that 'requires' proof then surely they should pay to obtain it?Undervalued wrote: »Why not?

Possibly but that would depend on the terms of the company sick pay scheme.
It is not uncommon for an employer to require extra proof, particularly if an employee has lots of short periods of sick leave, goes sick as suspicious times or during notice.
I am not in any way suggesting the OP is "trying it on" but sadly quite a few employees do.0 -
Hi, you should get a copy of the organisation's sickness and absence policy. This will explain your entitlement(s). Also have a look at the government website that also explains your entitlement(s) gov.uk/taking-sick-leave0

Some of these companies are just....
I imagine they would also see dying as a breach of contract too.0 -
Lol we don't have a company sick pay scheme and I won't get SSP because it was just odd days off. I had a chat to the big boss today and told him if he doesn't reign in his manager he'd be hearing from my employment lawyer, she's been a right pain in the backside since I handed in my notice, today sticking a box in front of the staff room door so that I couldn't get out0
