How London can solve the housing shortage
Comments
-
London will never solve the housing problem until it expands into MegaCity, out to the M25 car park.
Inner London Labour boroughs will be allowed to vote for independence; then they will adopt SNP policies. After a few years they will be so broke the land will be bought back for a song and the borough reabsorbed.0 -
Move all government departments out of London. Relocate each government department to a different City in need of regeneration. London will survive.
The MP's are refusing to move out of the house of commons temporarily and move across the road to let important structural work take place. They shan't be moving anywhere out of London any time soon.
Best not to sail against the wind, best to sail with it.
The people that might get sent up further up north and in greater number is the BBC, as punishment.Proudly voted remain. A global union of countries is the only way to commit global capital to the rule of law.0 -
Part of the problem with housing in this country is that there is an endless new supply of schemes, initiatives, help to buy, help to buy isa, buy, rent to buy, lie to buy, intermediate rent, shared equity, - you get the idea. How many bureaucrats are employed inventing and monitoring this nonsense?
If only the government - local and national - would scrap these initiatives and redirect the resources to actually building homes. You know like we did in the 30s and 50s when we were also in austerity and had a housing shortage.
Problem is there is no will to deliver this - as politicians mostly own homes and have buy to lets so have no real interest in addressing the issues as heaven forbid it might lower house prices to levels people can afford.0 -

As a London resident of 30 years standing, I'd like to say that we could achieve a greater density by looking at Glasgow/Edinburgh-style tenement building and spend less time trying to ignore problems and trying to relate and blame everything on policies of parties that can't operate there like the Republican Party, Democratic Party, SNP etc. Unless you're so right wing you think any or all of these these organisations are all communist/socialist outfits. :eek:There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -

Mr Salmond seemed to think that the SNP was a socialist party:

There's no shortage of ideas for why (other) people should move out of London usually put forward by those who simply have to stay because they do vital work at the head office of Starbucks, Sainsburys....0 -

Governments have been moving civil service jobs away from London and the SE in order to save money for decades. Which is why the Department of Health is in Leeds, HMRC is in Nottingham, and the ONS is in Newport.0 -

A rule of thumb for investors is the nicer and better located the head office, the less investable the company.0 -
