£10 for a police report on a burglary?

Son's MacBook Pro stolen from university accommodation and now Kent Police says because of data protection, my son needs to pay £10 before he can have a digitalised version of the report. We have heard nothing of any investigation and out of the blue, there is a demand for £10. Is this the practice in UK police authorities across the board please?

This is really add insult to injury as there is no forced and/or violent entry, the insurer has rejected the claim and now I am complaining to the ultimate insurers LLOYDS. Is this tenner worth spending?

Presumably you've asked for a copy of the report to challenge the insurers - they haven't just sent you a bill out of the blue.

Assuming you want some evidence to challenge with then you're likely to have to 'invest' the £10

We were burgled overnight last year whilst we slept. We claimed on house insurance (door broken), contents insurance (items stolen) and car insurance (my keys were taken to steal my husbands car that had both sets). We were only asked for the crime number and the receipts of items.
  • Some years ago, someone broke the quarter-light on my car and, among other things, stole the tax disc from the window.

My local VLO charged me £7 to replace the disc.

Talk about kicking you when you are down.

I suppose it depends on how you think the Macbook got stolen what with there being "no forced and/or violent entry"

I would not mind if they had investigated something or informed us of the following up. Kent police sat on the fat a*** and now target the victim for £10. The trouble is that if you google, my son's case is more or less "stu****". Why can't they at least email us about what has happened about the progress of investigation??? They don't investigate and now sting us with a tenner!

Did you have any joy? I presume there must have been forced entry. The trouble with my son's case was that the MacBook Pro was fished out of the gap of an open window whilst my son was out.

You are being asked to make a DPA request

I wouldn't mind if they had phoned or emailed us to let us know what had happened. I have not heard a blip and out came a demand for money.

You would think as a victim of burglary for which the Kent police have done nothing, the last thing you want is to part with more money, especially when your claim has already been refused by the insurer.

I feel like a bad mother that I have to tell him off again and again and yet £1500 is not an easy amount to save.

Why is a crime report classed as PDA any way? It is just a trick to make money.
