I have to say, been a recent convert to Aldi myself, you can quiet easily halve your shopping bill, by shopping there, instead of Tesco, or any of the other leading supermarkets.
Basics are cheaper, meat, same quality, half the price, same for wine, and virtually everything else too.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards. Hi Tony, I appreciate with older kids etc. you probably will spend more/eat more. Tbh I wouldn't normally do sausage and mash, as we tend to eat more sauce based dishes as I find they go much further and I just like making sauces. eg. curries, stir frys, bolognaise, chilli etc. only tend to have a meat/pots/veg meal as a roast which is always huge, but I do stretch the meat over to make up for it. We are eating a lot of salad at the moment though, so finding its usually closer to £60 a week at the moment. Also, it does take time to plan and cook from scratch etc. every day. Have you looked at batch cooking as well? This can work out cost effective as it controls the portions and means no left over waste? Maybe try to cut down by £50 next month and see how you get on. Also, have you ever looked at Muscle Foods website? I buy a lot of my meat from there and they have lots of regular special offer deals come up.Mum of 2 monkey. 4 yrs and 2 yrs :j

Also, for a bolognaise, have you tried using 400g mince and adding a handful of lentils to it? I find if you get the balance right you really can't tell the difference.Mum of 2 monkey. 4 yrs and 2 yrs :j

I shop at Aldi & Farmfoods. 3kg of chicken £10 - lasts me 2/3 weeks. £500 is alot. I also buy nappies, wipes etc for my children from aldi (inc in £200)0

We are a family of 4 our budget is 300-350!- month mostly aldi with meat and veg from local shops.
I do think you need to sit down and work our what you owe as a family. Our finances are totally joint and have a clear understanding of all our comings and goings.
Good luck. The futures bright the future is Ginger0 -
I've noticed everyone does say that about every SOA on here...but I live in the real world. Kids need fresh fruit available at all times. That might mean some of it gets binned but it must always be made available to them to eat.
Frozen fruit and veg is often cheaper than fresh, every bit as nutritious and there's no waste
I let my mind wander and it never came back!0
