Thursday 2nd July - What small DFW things will you do today?

Posts: 4,106 Forumite
When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym.
But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free!
Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending!
So be proud of those small steps, they really are important!:money:

Morning all

List for today:
Check banks Done
Ring insurance company re home and contents insurance renewal forms which seem to assume / require that we have a burglar alarm. We don't, and have no intention of having one fitted. Oops forgot this - must remember it tomorrow
Tidying in house and garden - fairly minimal in house, but one of the raised borders in the garden needs proper attention Well, I started, then got rained off, but it cleared up late afternoon and I got quite a lot done!
Pick any produce that is ready A huge lettuce and a few strawberries today
Watering - I didn't do much yesterday as I felt so shattered by the time I got to it
Not much needed, as the rain took care of most things :T
Do a wash and dry on line - even if it rains at some stage, there will probably be enough dry hours to get it dry (if that makes sense!) Didn't as it rained, another job for tomorrow
Pop along to sales unit to see if anything needs doing / topping up just a quick tidy up. Nothing seems to have gone
I got my cheque / list of what had sold and I was well down on previous months. Oh well, onward and upward!
HM meals from stores, trying for another NSD again today
Meals all as planned but didn't manage a NSD as I managed to buy a couple of Monsoon tops off ebay (and one off of Monsoon in their sale :eek: Do need them though, honest
Stick to diet - I failed yesterday
Been good today
Right, better get on - hope you all have a good day

Morning ziggy & Dawn.
Thanks for starting us off ziggy
Looks like it's going to be a nice day here today :j and the temperature has come down so it's not swelteringly oppressive as it was yesterday.
I spent a lot of time just mooching around yesterday, reading, relaxing, cleaned the oven (weirdly therapeutic) and generally reflecting on and processing everything that has happened over the last week. Today I definitely feel lighter and more positive than I have done. I've been in such a fog with so much running through my head. Have decided to take better care of myself while I am going through this time. Spent an hour job searching and found 5 vacancies I'm interested in applying for.
So small things for today:
* [STRIKE]checked banking[/STRIKE]
* [STRIKE]realised I didn't pay CM
made payment and sent her a text[/STRIKE]
* All meals from stores - tea for oh & I is yesterday's LO risotto
* bake cake
* got to make a car journey today so will check tyres, oil & water. [STRIKE]Clean car out a little[/STRIKE]
* put £10 of petrol in car
* vacuum stairs & upstairs
* check onepoll
* just got a little more repotting to do. Salad seeds are starting to come through :T
* put away a basket of laundry
* go to Aldi and get ingredients to bake a cake for dgd's birthday and things for bbq on Sunday
* [STRIKE]wrote shopping list[/STRIKE]
Ok think that's all I need to do. Have a lovely day everyone xDF as at 30/12/16

Hi Guys
Ziggy - why were you up at 5am? The weather?
Twiggy - Glad you have lots planned on the organisation front
Dawn - hope today is less tiring. Your hot DGD day yesterday sounded full on!
Determined- hope you OK. When is the funeral going to be?
Well it is cooler in the shop today thank goodness. Temp says. 25.5 at present. Yesterday it was 30.5 which believe me was sweltering.
I made a small eBay sale so have just paid £7.64 to the debt. CC2 to be exact. That is the smaller card that I always feel annoyed I can't pay more off cos min payment on CC1 is so high. But with a little more effort CC2 will be on the ropes. £514.83 now to go on it!!
Where is the Foxy one this week? I need to get my fix

I've never joined in before, but have been following you all for a few weeks. I am so impressed at how motivated you all are to save where you can, and also the support that you all give to each other.
I am lucky that I don't have debts, but I am retired on a very small state pension so have to be frugal. Luckily this comes naturally as I have always shopped carefully - in fact, I get a kick out of finding a bargain!
My frugal day so far:
Got up very early as it was so hot and took dog for a 2 mile walk before breakfast - good exercise for both of us, and I keep a lookout for freebies on the way (5p today).
Turned off the hot water after only 15 minutes - with these temperatures, it keeps hot for ages in a well lagged tank.
Put surplus boiled water from the kettle into a flask to use for next hot drink.
Picked a few beans and dug potatoes.
Cycled a mile to the shops - nearest supermarket is 10 miles away, but good independent shops in our small market town. Got a large granary loaf from the baker for 75p as it was yesterday's, but still fresh.
Post has arrived so cut up junk mail and envelopes to use for shopping lists.
Just decided on lunch - will use up some soft tomatoes to make an omelette.
Hope everyone is a bit cooler today!0 -

I think I'll steal this idea if you don't mind! I also have some very tatty envelopes as my "pots" (i.e. food) - refuse to get a new one but why have I never thought to use one from the post?! See - I'm already pleased you've decided to join in!Debt as at 5 June 2023 - £15,600.89
