defaulted whilst with debt advisor. help!

Hi, I have just about saved enough to finally get debt free! We have been using CAP (christians against poverty) for just over 3 years, but I can't get an answer out of them for this issue.
When we first started with them, we had continued to make all payments on loans but couldn't afford food etc. They had a list of things to do, eg only use a basic bank account. The main one was that they told us to STOP all payments to debtors. It took them over 3 months to come to an agreement with the debtors, adding around £1000 to our debt (originally 8000). It also resulted in us being defaulted on the loans.
My question is this - should these defaults still stand? It seems harsh that we were defaulted by following CAP's plan - which has now ruined our credit rating.
Thanks in advance

Harsh as it seems, the credit file is there to reflect reality. The reality is, you defaulted on your payments, regardless of the reason. You wont have any joy asking them to be removed. The best you can do is continue with your plan to be debt free and then be good until the 6 years have elapsed and they naturally fall off the file.Debt Free! Long road, but we did it

Maybe CAP should have warned you but you should also have realised that not paying what you should would harm your credit file.Still rolling rolling rolling......

Entering any kind of debt management program will have a negative effect on your credit rating, it's par for the course.
You obviously needed there help, otherwise you would not of gone there.

Not paying your contractual payments = default. CAP advised you to stop paying the contractuals because you couldn't afford the basics for living. Yes, your credit file will be marked to reflect the status of your loans and payments but it's more important that your priorities for things like food, rent etc are paid first and foremost.
It's an inevitable part of being in unaffordable debt unfortunately, but try not to dwell on it too much. Your credit file can be repaired, just focus on the here and now.Total 'Failed Business' Debt £29,043

thanks for the replies - to be honest that's what I thought, but I figured I would be silly for not checking.0

There are many on these forums who would say that it is preferable to get a default (which will mean the entry drops away 6 years later) rather than an arrangement to pay marker which stays till 6 years after the balance is cleared!
It sound like standard debt advice from CAP which has helped you to get debt free in only 3 years.0
