Got payslip, but no salary in yet

Hi all,

My wife has just got herself a new job and got her payslip for the month of June yesterday (30th June). However, her payment, although made to her bank by wire transfer by her employer (she has a copy of the transaction) will not hit her bank for another 3-5 working days. Is this normal? We are applying for a mortgage shortly, and will it make a difference if her payment goes in on the 5/6/7th of the next month instead of the last day of the month worked? Hope that makes sense. Any input is much appreciated.

Probably best if she asks HR or whoever is responsible for paying salaries. It's different for many companies. I have been paid before receiving wage slips as well as after. Once you get into the norm then it will be easier.

Many companies have a procedures book in which they give the rules. They often say that payslips are issued on, say, the nearest working day to the 24th of each month and the actual money is in the bank three working days later.

Is her employer an American company? Nobody in the UK would use the term "wire transfer". It sounds to me like it's a BACS Direct Credit, which is very commonly used for payment of wages, and takes 3 working days (so generally 3-5 elapsed days) for the payment to appear in your account, and they are initiating it at the time they produce the payslips.

I can't see that it will have any impact on your mortgage application except that your June statement may not have a salary credit, so you may have to explain why that is. It might be better anyway to wait a few months to apply if you can so that she has a consistent record to offer.
