Yes, you'll be entitled to 25% off your council tax bill as a single tenant. Couldn't you cut down on your food bill by making up sarniz ... for work - there's a thread on here for that. I'd forget the savings account for now as it's more important to clear your debts. I'd ditch the mobile too or get something cheaper if possible. Good luck!0

Sorry just had another read of your thread and noticed that your mobile's a contract - I'd ditch the BT phone. You could always sell the car to gain some funds

Skinted stodge - i'm joining you on the £35 for a month - sure it'll be healthy for me.
Duke - good idea, think i'll ditch Bt line, never use it anyhow other than my mum ringing me on it day and night! hehehe
poppy10 - i wish I had been that sensible - although i do love my sofa...
Mmmm advice needed, just checked out my loan agreement with lloyds tsb and its very difficult to read anything on it.... it's not a copy, its the printed original the bank gave me but toner was low on printer so pretty illegible. anything I can do - i'd quite enjoy making money off lloyds tsb - they've made enough off me! xxBack in debt, but refusing that let that smile be turned upside down!
Not as bad as the original £23k, but here goes:
Next Directory - £799 - 26.49% HSBC Credit Card - £720 - £24.9% Barclay Credit Card - £900 -
Mum - £1379 - 18^ (not mother hen charging, but her credit card!) 0 -
You ex sounds like a right pain in the @rse - first thing though is get onto the agents & make sure they don't give him his share of the deposit back - say you can prove that he's leaving with enormous gas arrears - they should then give the money to you (nominally to pay off the arrears) which you can then give back to them so all the deposit held is in your name!
Also, make sure you go through the CC statements & see what has been bought for him or the house in the last 6 months - then make sure that he doesn't take it with him (don't care if it's worn socks that you'd never be able to sell, it's partly the principle!) Flog anything of his that you paid for on the cards - if he's refusing to pay then tough!
Also, what I would do is take meter readings on the day he moves out - ask the gas & electric companies to send in an interim bill showing all that is outstanding to that date. If you go to the CAB you'll be able to get legal advise, but I would have thought with a joint tenancy agreement & bill showing the utility amount outstanding you could take him to the small claims court.Total Debt 13th Sept 2006 (exc student loan): £6240.06

Hi there,
I notice that you are saving for Christmas etc - how many people do you have to buy for? why not visit the 'Freebie'website and get loads of freebies and make up gift baskets for people - you can get lovely baskets in the £ shop or cheap shops - I got a few Clarins Mascara's (worth £8) the other day to go in baskets - the offer has now changed but there are loads of freebies out there - if friends/family know your situation they would not want you spending money on them if you are in debt ....... just a thought !!! You've come to the right place thats for sure. I wish you luck.0 -
Can you give me a bit more info on why you are getting redeloyed to another job adn you are taking a pay cut.
From waht I know this isnt actually legal, if you are remaining working for the same firm. Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -

Just to repeat everyone else, really sorry to hear about your situation. But I would like to say you're doing amazingly well to be so open and honest about it, and to tackle it head on - I'm sure with a few suggestions you'll do fine.
I'd really consider the suggestion of selling the car, particularly if you are still looking to cut your monthly costs. You'll get rid of your insurance costs and throw the money you make at your debt - usually best to target the highest APR but in terms of reducing your monthly outgoings might want to consider trying to clear one of your debts completely so that you get rid of the monthly payment. Friend at work got rid of her car about 6 months ago, and she's not even within walking distance to work! If you're walking to work and getting tesco online (with free delivery of course!) i'd bet you can cover any other essential journeys with public transport and still be much better off.
Also, would be an idea to check out benefits and other help - you might be eligible for tax credits or similar. Fairly easy to check (tax credits have an online thing) and certainly no harm in trying!0 -
Sounds like you're better off without that partner! Is there anyway you can get a friend in to share, or are you in a one bedroom place?
I would echo lynzpower about the job, are they legally able to do this to you? Do you have a sympathetic boss or line manager you could raise this with? If not the Citizens Advice Bureau should be able to tell you if this is legal.0
