advice on remortgage?

Hi there, our halifax mortgage fixed rate of 5.49% is due to run out 1/09/2007 and go straight onto a 7.75% standard variable rate which is a huge leap!!!! need to find another fixed rate motgage, having 2 kids etc we need to be in control of our finances so a variable rate is not in our budget. Can anybody point me in the right direction???
Our redemption figure is £41,000 and we have 17 yrs 10 months left.
